Part livery etiquette

To add to my previous comment - our vet visited one day and asked if we had a loo, we said no but please feel free to use a stable. She did and then came out with a neat doggy bag, filled and tied!!! Never thought she meant a poo but she took it with her, no embarrassment (apart from ours!).

Amusingly a guy came to collect a horse off me earlier and asked if he could use the stable to wee! And the cat does use the beds as giant litter trays, that's probably worse.

My YO would quite literally have heart failure if he found out anyone pee'd in the stables (not that anyone does at ours - that I know of!). He is an extremely well to do man who has probably never even so much as parked with half a wheel on a double yellow!

Luckily, the loo is right next door to my stable, so I bagsy it before everyone else!

I frequently wee in stables....and we even have an outside loo, I'm just too lazy to walk to it! I love that the horses come and snuffle my hair and try and push me over lol!

Mine is hilarious - he actually takes a few steps away and waits til I sort myself out before he comes over. He's never a gentleman at any other time so I doubt it's that...

I wee in mine! I've never been at a yard with a loo! Luckily current beasty enjoys a bed with huge banks so I have no problem with using perching on the banks. I'm sure no one can tell the difference between mine and hers!

What???!!? Omg i feel sick at the thought!!

Use your mucking-out skips people or an old bucket! A quick rinse and no-ones the wiser, I wouldn't fancy mucking out someone elses pee, and I certainly wouldn't want anyone to have to clean up mine, yuk!

I regularly wee in horse's stable. I find it amusing that he always looks shocked and a bit disgusted that I'm peeing in his bedroom, I clean it out, so why not.
The whole concept of a pee bucket is pretty disgusting IMO. What if someone accidentally grabbed it & used it for something else.

Sorry to start a whole new debate here but, you would do a number 2 in someone elses house!?

Yes? If I needed to? It's a toilet that's what it's there for... and it's not like you're leaving it unflushed or the toilet smelling, I certainly always spray air freshener if required, but if I needed to I would!

My YO has three teenage sons, I'm sure she's seen worse.

No problem with it at all. I use a bucket and empty it down the nearest drain if possible, but have weed on suitable bedding such as flaxcore or shavings too. I wouldn't be quite so keen on straw, because I think it would end up smelling like a public toilet unless washed down properly. A full time yard manager at one yard a couple of years ago did it all the time in people's stables (on shavings), which she mucked out herself. No loo...so I guess there was the odd No 2 as well. We are all animals, after all...and as long as it's not left to fester!

You're surely not suggesting it's a hanging offence? I don't mind a snog with the horse when I'm caught short but I'd be pretty damned annoyed to get a parking ticket (on any number of counts)!

I can only imagine that anyone who has never peed in a stable has never been on a loo-less yard a 20 minute drive from home and stayed there all day.

Haha I have no issue with weeing in stables, I've been there! On a cold windy rainy day, no loo in sight and you just HAD to have that 2nd cup of coffee to wake yourself up....I'd be a bit miffed if I caught someone else with their trousers down in my stable though haha, go use your own!

Number 2 though, a whole different issue! Go find a toilet/forest/hole in the ground!!

I wouldn't use my stable if there was a loo available but blimey what's a bit of human wee amongst a horses? In the old days hardly any yards had loos. Wouldn't bother me at all.

This. I was reading down, thinking 'what a lot of fuss over nothing'! I rent some land with a friend. We could be seen from the road if peeing in the hedge, so we use a stable. Big deal, when you gotta go, you gotta go! I live 45 mins away, so cannot wait til I get home.
I wouldn't poo in the stable, and I definitely wouldn't leave it to be cleaned up by someone else!! But I think people get far too het up over a natural bodily function. :)

I haven't and I haven't - surely if you're a livery yard owner you have an obligation to provide facilities for paying customers? That said, if I were a YO and people were shetting in my toilet I wouldn't be letting you use it either!

I will add that I have no issues with squatting when I am caught out, just not in a load of straw I know I will be handling at a later date...

Maybe they do - mine is a private yard run by a friend, with only three liveries, one of whom is on retirement livery so owner is about much. Not surprised she doesn't want to build a toilet out at the barn, its an expense just for two people! And YO doesn't have a problem with us using her toilet so don't really get your point there?

I wouldn;t go in straw either as it doesn't absorb, the shavings are dead easy though.

What a funny thread! I have no qualms peeing in my stable and wouldn't care if someone else did either, unless it was one of the empty ones with no bedding in. I muck out with a fork and shovel anyway, so am nowhere near touching any wee. The stables are full of horse wee anyway, and get swept/swilled out.

I completely agree. I'm quite surprised actually at some of the responses on here. But as someone who's happy to 'wild pee' almost anywhere maybe that says more about me than anyone else :D:D:D

I am also happy to wild pee, though that says a fair bit about my age & stage of life.....

I dont really understand what all the fuss is about, ive been on yards without a toilet and have used the stables if i needed a wee. we would just shout so that nobody came over. I wouldnt use anyone elses stable but my own though.

Really? Its only pee!

When I was younger the only toilet on our yard was in YO's house and she was scary, so I'd pee in the stable. Obviously I prefer a loo but if there's not one, shavings bed will suffice. And half the time you can't even tell!

this.

its only wee.

It wouldn't bother me having to muck out someone else's wee so weeing in the stable doesn't bother me.

now pooing on the other hand......
