Hi all,
I am lookig to put my 2 horses on part livery i have always been on d.i.y so im not sure what i was looking for i went to one yard which was very nice. Sandschool, all year turnout owners live on site direct hacking onto bridle path really out the way it is in the surrey area. But does the price sound good for what you get as i said ive always been on d.i.y so could anyone tell me if this is the going rate for part livery ad its extras.

Part livery 7 days icluded for £110 a week: feeding am+pm muck out turnout and bring in pick out feet 1 1/2 bale of shavings a week

the extras were: assist vet/farrier £4.50 1/2 hr, tack clean £5.50, full groom £10, shavings extra £6.50 a bale, schooling 1hr £25, lungeing 1/2 hr £15, hacking 1hr £23.

Sorry its long!

I would imagine that in Surrey, that's a reasonable price. I am in the north-west and I pay £85 per week for the same thing, although ours go on the horsewalker when they can't go out and we don't get charged for assistance with vet/farrier..

Sounds about right. Go up & have a look at the stables, make sure that you like the way they are mucked out. Perhaps go early in the morning or towards late afternoon so you can get an idea of mucking out in progress.

Check that the feed is included for that price, and do they do extra skip out if turnout is restricted due to poor weather (think snow).

Also check whether they do xmas & bank holidays.

Make sure you like the look and feel of the place & they way the horses are handled.

At my current yard (nr chichester in west sussex)

its £85 a week which included turnout out, bring in, haylage, bedding (max 2 bales of shavings a week) feed (basics you pay for supplements) farrier, vet, dentist and back man visits organised and attended.

the extras are £15 to school, lunge or lesson and £25 to hack. yard has sand school, off road hacking and horse walker.

Thank you all for replying. I went whilst they were mucking out and they do a very thorough job. I shall go back and ask about the skip out if bad weather if the horses cant get turned out and about the feed. Thank you everyone! xx

Its perfectly reasonable for surrey - in fact it is somewhat on the cheap side which makes me wonder why.

You haven't listed rug change as either part of the standing charge or the extras - you might need that in the winter. You might also want to check fencing, poo picking, ragwort control etc in the feilds.

I'm just wondering why this yard comes up cheaper than most in the area - although surrey is a big place and it may be cheaper locally on the surrey / sussex borders rather than the surrey / london borders where I am.

You might want to just ask around a bit as well - local shows are good for that. If it would help pm me the name of the yard in case I've heard of it. (I've been knocking around this area with horses a very long time!)

Otherwise - grab with both hands!!!

Sounds good value apart from the exercise. £25 schooling is a lot unless done by a real professional and £23 for hacking is crazy IMO

Hi, thanks everyone!

I went to veiw the yard againg this morning and i must say im very impressed. I went and looked around the feilds, stables (mucking out), the handling of the horses its in a very quite location i did ask alot of questions (god know what they thought of me!) The rug change is in with the price and they also make the feeds up. The hay is £4.50 if you buy it direct from them or you can arange some yourself. Shay it is in the surrey/sussex boarder.

Thank you! Very much apreciated!!
xx

My thoughts exactly. Everything else seems reasonable enough but the exercise seems really expensive to me, unless there schooling them to a very high standard?

Hi TS_
I know itis very expencive but i wont need my horses excercised i will be able to, if not myself my friend.

It does sound a bit on the pricey side. I am on the Surrey/W Sussex border and pay £106 pw - includes all feed, hay/haylage, shavings (2 bales pw) or straw, turn out/bring in, changing rugs, mucking out and skipping out and visits by farrier/vet/physio etc. Basically everything apart from exercise and supplements.

We've got a 60x20 all weather outdoor arena, a gallop track (and they mark out dressage arenas and put up showjumps in summer in the middle bit), all yr round turnout, free use of horsewalker and the hackings not bad either

I'd shop around a bit if you can - obviously if you really like the yard then go for it but you could probably get a better deal with the same standard of care elsewhere.
