how much would you expect to pay for a horse on part loan? to me i would think half of the costs of the horse would be acceptable? i'm trying to work it out before anyone responds to my advert (if anyone!)
at the minute horse costs me:

£42 livery p/w
£20 insurance p/m
£80 shoes
so i was thinking £25 a week and £40 towards shoes? that wouldn't include paying for his feed but i'm happy to cover that myself....

Depends on what the loaner gets for that? Eg, will it be days prescribed by you, or flexible? Would they get weekend days every week?
What sort of riding is it? (or what sort of rider do you want?) and what facilities do you have.

I think half costs is a reasonable price to ask for in general, but it does depend a little on the details. :)

oh i am totally flexible... i would actually prefer a full loan but then i would expect them to pay all the livery and all the shoes (i presume that would be quite normal?) but if i get ppl asking about part loan i would expect they would want 3/4 days? i'd be happy for them to pick their days and they could have both weekend days if they wanted but i think they'd have to make a decision so i could organise my time around them...would that be fair?

i want/need a fairly competent rider as horse is an ex racer but its up to them what they do- could be hacking or schooling (have an arena with lights) or even jumping/ competing if capable... i;d expect them to do jobs on their days but i'm happy to do the morning shift...

i think i'm offering quite a good deal? i;ve had people ring in the past and said this is too expensive but working on what it costs to ride 1x per week in a riding school i think people must surely be a bit deluded?!

i'm in surrey, it seems part loan for 2-3 days a week is no less than £200 pcm.

Riding school ponies are certainly hired for part loan for 2 set days for £200 pcm.

I think 25 per week plus a evening jobs is ok. That's what the owner of my share charges, plus 35 for shoes.

But, she needs someone else as she doesn't ride and they're not getting enough exercise. She's advertising for £30 per week now, and no one is having it! I pay £20 though per week, as i'm skint and do extra jobs. I can ride as many times as i like a week for that, in fact the more the better. Used to do 3 days a week but now i'm doing 2 as petrol money is costing me a fortune 15 miles each way.

If you could find 2 sharers and didn't want to ride, then they could each have a weekend day and split the rest between them. I think that would be reasonable.

Oh, and i pay half of wormer too. Owner pays insurance etc.

my last part loan initially cost me £25 per week, but that was brought down to £15 (for reasons we won't go into ... haha)
i've been looking for a new part loan and i've found one which seems pretty ideal for me for £8 a week in summer, i think it just depends on where abouts you are in the country and what kind of horse you're loaning.

i think that paying half is fair though, that's what my last loan was like (and partly the reason the price was brought down .. i was basically paying for everything with my contribution)

it obviously depends how much your livery is for full, as £25 if fair for a past loan for yours as your livery is more expensive than mine (mine is only £25 ...
