Just in response to all the latest posts about wanting to know experiences about part loaning or sharing your horses and what to expect...just thought rather than replying to them all, I do a mass post!!
Firstly I know part loaners have a bit of a bad rep
but I honestly love Kelly to pieces and don't know what I'd do if I didn't have her - I am told that she is as much mine as she is the owners now (by the owner) and that we have an incredible bond (by other liveries) - I'm sure I'm not the only p/l who feels like this? She's not just something to ride to me.
I have seen so many sharers come and go in the 8 years I've been on the yard, and sometimes I just want to go and do their pony for them!!
so I do understand the bad rep.
I've heard the common misconception over and over that sharers get horses because they can't be bothered to have their own - wrong. I live away at uni and have non horsey parents, so it wouldn't have been right to expect them to look after my own horse when I'm away - plus it would be a waste it wouldn't get ridden!! I am down for Kelly every day when I am home, I often ride Pebs if G (owner) is working and I also exercise YO's horse (she is teaching me jumping confidence
) but Kelly would always come first every time.
I've been sharing for 8 years (owner's daughter's pony first, then she bought Pebs and I moved onto Kelly as we'd both outgrown Rebel) and I've had the views of some people about p/l put upon me whilst at the yard, having them trying to make me move off
I've learnt more than I ever have done whilst at the RS and love every minute of it! Kelly's been out of action completely for nearly 6 months now with slight rotation in her front feet and I am still there every day - shows some commitment?
I am due to get back on for the first time next week
To anyone debating part loaning their horse to someone because of a lack of time, money or both or something else - I'd say go ahead, but just find the right person
I wasn't left alone for the first 6 weeks with Rebel, I had someone hacking out with me and even after that, and now if G isn't down and I am, I'll still text her to let her know how Kelly has been. As long as you find the right person who gets on with you and your horse and has been taught properly (I had very little idea when I started with Rebel, I was taught right from the start) and you have a good contract (written is better - we were lucky as I have never had a contract really but its all worked out).
I promise, there are some good'uns out there!!!!
