It's looking like I'm going to need an extra pair of hands around this winter and am thinking of hiring a groom.

Would it be easier (insurance / tax / national insurance) wise if I hired a freelance groom? I would only need the person part time so they would be free to work for other people (and therefore satisfy the silly inland revenue rule of being self employed with one client!)

Also, if I hired someone on a freelance basis would they need a contract?

Tis mainly mucking out / stable chores rather than riding so nothing very glamorous!
