Hi

3 horses I know including mine are really struggling with some kind of copd/hay fever thing at the moment. One has been coughing terribly for about 8 weeks now and mine has been heaving but not coughing for almost 3.
All are under vet care now.
I know my boy has allergies and head shakes and has the odd outbreak of hives this time of year but nothing like this ever
Is anyone else finding it particularly bad this year?

My boy is being treated for a sinus infection - he's on Baytril now as 1st lot of antibiotics didn't cure it, but i'm not sure it's a run of the mill infection. I think it's an allergic reaction to something and i think it started when the farmers started spraying their fields... going to get the vet back out next week if it hasn't cleared

My boys been quite good this year actually, last year he suffered terribly with a cough because the field behind us had Rape Seed growing in it, so I had to put him out of work for a month and eventually I ended up giving him a course of Benylin which mostly cleared it up in about two weeks.

Any hint of a cough or wheezing this year and he goes straight back on that! He's also not allowed to work without his nose net and pretty soon he'll be turned out with his fly net with a nose net attached. I'm not having him out of work for a month this year because he just piles weight on if he's not in work.
