posted this in new lounge no intrest so thought id ask in here i have a old 505 ,can you actually make your own i did ring dealer up and the prices were expensive, how much can i get a second hand one at a fair price , and because they are rare, can i have one made ?Have you and how ?Pictures if you can please .
If travelling with one with partition in, which side ?and without, do you put full breech bar in front and breechbar and or chain behind ?Thanks have been leaning to homemade one not sure about how to explain to get it made, neither any help thanks alot :)

I've had a full width breast bar made for my IW by a local metalworker/welder and it cost about £40. I don't have a rear one, just shut the ramp. It works very well - the horse never seems to sit on the rear door and usually chooses to travel diagonally.

I have a 12yo 505 ifor, although I could do with a 510 as its bitty too small for my horse hence why he is travelled without the middle partition.

he has both the breast and breech bar, i prefer the extra breech bar as I can drop the back ramp and much out without getting him off, and i also stud him up with the back ramp down (safer)

I would get one made, the old style ones were made out of square box steel.

good luck

i got 2 full length bars from Ifor Williams and they were £38/each.

haven't travelled any of mine with the partition for about 3 years and they all travel much better without.

I had a mare who travelled much better in my 505 without partition in. I bought a double front breast bar direct from ifor (£40) and just used the ramp behind. She too travelled diagonally and as I always front unloaded her anyway, really didn't need anythinhg behind.

If you do get one made, make sure it is strong enough as they do like to lean into them. Proper ones are smooth and rounded, so if you end up with a squared one, put pipe-lagging on it then bind it with something padded like vet-wrap or other bandages, or old towelling.

Might be worth look second hand on various website, inc ebay. They do come up; there are two on there for the 510 at the moment for £50, with no bids, but appreciate these are too long for you. Ifor now seem to sell them new for £80....

Good luck!

Thankyou for all your help , my front one is square so i will get it lagged thank you for that and ill get one for the back and not worry about the partition too much yet then -ive yet to go out with trailer and horsey in a few times , get my confidence up just trying to make sure every things ok safety, etc so less for me to worry , you have all gave me confidence abit more thank you

If it is your first time with a trailer, just take your time and practice with it without the horse. In a few months time you'll be so chilled about it all you'll wonder why you worried.

Good luck and enjoy the freedom it gives you!
