Trying to help a friend with her new horse as it doesn't have a passport! Horse is now 4.

She knows the sire and dam, but hasn't got a covering certificate or any other proof - but could possibly get it.

Now, she wants the horse registered as a Warmblood (which she is, I think!) but we don't have a clue how to or who to register with to get a passport..

ADVICE PLEASE!!!

if she knows the dam and sire she could get DNA taken to prove it? Once she does that she can register with Sire's studbook I would think. Or AES etc. I am sure others can give more info though.

Job one, vet needs to check if horse has a microchip, then check to see if there is a passport issued.
Once the horse is older, you will need DNA to back up if she doesnt have papers, sire, dam and her. Hopefully if the stallion is licensed that DNA is already recorded. And hopefully for dam too. You would need to find what society (for ease) the mare/stallion are graded into.

Hope that helps x

Contact the studbook the stallion is licensed with and they will probably have a record of the covering and contact the stallion owner they will also have records. How did she aquire a hiorse without a passport and why did the vendor not have one?

There are dillions of horses still without passports and dillions more unscrupulous sellers claiming horses have none. It is very easy to aquire horses without passports and even easier to sell them probably as no one presses a magic alert button when a passport gets issued for a horse over 6 months old. We all know the system is seriously weak so lets not ask silly questions eh? Annoying for sure but that is why so much data on breeding is lost in this country, we just don't have a habit of caring enough. I really hope this one gets his paperwork properly and credit to his new owner for being bothered to do it.
