I am planning to register my 5yo either BE or BS (depending on how our XC schooling goes tomorrow
). On his passport it says he is a colt, which he clearly isn't (my vet has checked just to make sure
), he is 100% gelding. At the back of a passport is a note telling the vet to send a form and passport back to the passport issuer when the horse is gelded. This obviously wasn't done! So I asked my vet if they would be able to write a note to the passport issuer saying he has been gelded at some point, so they can change the passport details. My vet said they would look into it.
Just had a phone call from my vets. We are going to have to try and track down the vet which did the castration, which would be fine, but as he was not vaccinated when we bought him, we have no idea where he has been, or when he was castrated. Therefore it is going to be a somewhat lengthy process tracing it back to a particular vet. He was sold on behalf of his owner, and there are no previous owners in the passport. So can't really find out that way. My vet said it would end up costing £50+++ for them to find out who did the castration, that vet would then have to verify Colin was the horse they castrated (another vets bill!) and fill in the form. Then we can sent the passport off the be changed.
As this is going to be expensive I only want to do it if it completly neccessary. So would any of the affilliated governing bodies including BRC, BE, BS, BD have any problems if a horse's passport said it was a colt, but you were registering them as a gelding? Without them actually looking to check that Colin is a gelding, I have nothing to prove he has ever been castrated.
