I lost my little lads' passports when we moved house and need them so Jack can be shown this summer. Unfortunately when I bought the little lads I didn't transfer the passports into my name and I didn't make a note of their stud book numbers. Their old owner also hasn't got a record of their stud book numbers. I asked if she could ring the passport issuer to find out what we can do but she hasn't replied to my emails, calls or texts.

Is there anything I can do despite not being the named owner on the passports? I have the lads' full names, sire and dams names and dates of birth.

The legal position is that if your horses passport is lost, if you know who the Passport Issuing Organisation (PIO) was then you should apply to them for a replacement passport. If you do not know who issued the passport then you can apply to any other PIO but will have to have the horse microchipped. If you haven't registered the horse in your name and you apply for a replacement passport you may need to provide evidence that you have bought the horse, but it is the legal requirement to apply to the original PIO. If you want guidance on this visit the DEFRA website or contact you local Trading standards as they enforce the Horse Passports Regs and are usually quite happy to advise. Hope this helps.

Search NED with your names and try to identify your boys, you should then be able to get passport issuer and numbers from there.

Agree the advanced search putting in year of birth, colour etc is very good but you wont be able to get the passport number but at least you should then know which PIO to write to.
