Poo!

I have posted before about my gelding's passport. It was done about six years ago. Arranged by his previous owner. It says that he is 22......but two EDTS put him at 30 at the youngest. It also says that he is 16hh........he's closer to 17hh.

I have just looked at it since they had their jabs done yesterday............and it also says he's a MARE!!!!!

I looked under his skirt and he is definately all man

'Mare' is then covered with a bit of post-it note and gelding is written. In another section, mare is crossed out.

Zoom's passport is more accurate............but doesn't mention the fact that she has one eye

IMO that is a fairly defining factor!

Should I try and get them changed?

What a joke!! Poor Monty, yesterday, mane hogged with scissors......today, a lady-boy!!!

and there I was thinking that the vet wouldnt give the jab to the mare your OH got out cos it was a mare and wouldnt match the passport

lol lol lol

You do make me laugh... Monty a Ladyboy... you should call him Ting Tong!!

But seriously unless a horse is a registered breed ,passports are so crap, when I had mine done the guy didnt even look at their teeth or anything so I could have said any age really one has the name on it spelt completely wrong!!

Stinky's said piebald which I did get changed to skewbald. He is also stated as being 14.3 - he is now nearly 15.1. Problem is it was done when he was 6 months and he is now rising 6 - at least his markings are correct.

The only way to go is microchips to match passports rather than the colour and drawings - how many blacks are now grey?

The passports I have do have their chips and their freezemarks on them - if I had my way all horses would be chipped and marked with these details on passports - would bring an end to the problem, plus reduce theft.

Must admit not having his boy bits correct identified must be a bit of a blow for him

I guess it's not so important since, Zoom has 3 large unsightly brands which are on her passport and they are both microchipped.

I don't think anyone would steal them anyway. Zoom has one eye which isn't too sought after. Monty looks like a quality horse, much older than he looks and is generic dark bay................but i challenge any thief to try and get him on a lorry............or even out of the field! He's a right stubborn old bugger!

Which is why new legislation was introduced in the middle of last year that requires a microchip to link the passport to the animal.

Only for new passports mind.

Part of the problem with passports is that they have never been taken seriously nor has the law been enforced. There have been so many abuses of the system tolerated or ignored that the system fell largely into disrepair. The need for microchips to obtain a passport should help.
