Totally stuck on what to do. I bought a horse from a lady years ago, she gave me her passport but I never changed the ownership on the passport. I can’t find her passport anywhere and need to order a replacement but can this be done if she’s not in my name officially on the passport? How do I go about this. I haven’t got any contact details for the previous owner.

Could you get your vet to scan the microchip for the number? Then if you remember the passport society they should be able to find your horse. Not sure if change of name is important or not as I think it doesn't prove ownership legally.

It should not be an issue, you will need a microchip if she hasn't got one but that is probably the easiest way as you can then just apply for a new one from any generic issuer, no need to prove ownership, if you do have a chip and it links to a passport then you can apply for a new one to be issued most agencies will not ask for any more than the money and details filled in by the vet, a few will want to check but they will do that side of things, I sold a welsh pony years ago for a client and the receipt had my details on it, the WP&CS contacted me a few years later to confirm I had sold it and to double check the sale was genuine, not many agencies are that thorough.
