I misplaced my geldings passport some time ago, I need to replace it. He is microchipped. Will he need chipping again or will they read the chip and issue a New passport from the details on there?ie name and DOB. Can i get a new passport from anywhere or does I have to be with the original issuing authority?

For the Appy (lost by my old YO) I knew which passport authority it was so they sent me a replacement passport form. I still needed to get the vet out to have the mark-up done and chip checked etc though which was annoyingly expensive.

They don't chip again usually - the only time I saw it done was when the chip was registered overseas and the passport had been lost.

Vet did say her record was finding 3 separate chips in one horse.

The chip only has a number, the name and DOB are in the database that contain that number.

Only case I have known of horses having 2 microchips had been stolen in another country then chipped and passported again. I would avoid if at all possible. Your best bet is to get a duplicate passport from the same register than the original.

Vet reads the chip and does a marking chart
There’s a certain form to fill out for a replacement
With wetherbys it’s like 145 for a replacement passport

I misplaced a passport, (convinced it's in the house somewhere ) but had to get replacement, it was from the original issuer, the breed society. Think it was about £60

Its not a problematic issue. Vet reads existing chip, fills in form, send to Passport Issuing Office and £35.00 later a new passport arrives.

I can't find Bert's passport. I need to send it to breed society to transfer it into my name though hence the reason for looking for it.

I am going to call breed society tomorrow but I expect my problem will be as I am not the registered owner yet it might be difficult to get replacement for lost passport.

I am hoping if I do a massive search of the yard and flat it may turn up but I expect I may have accidentally thrown it out when tidying up. I am normally fastidious with paperwork but have been absent minded due to my mum being ill, menopause symptoms and work related stress.

Breathe easy, you won't be the first person this has happened to.

Call them, I'm sure they will be able to help. Be easy on yourself, the stress you are under will make all sorts of stuff more difficult. I too have been under huge stress and am making silly errors. It is totally normal and people will help. The problem is not insurmountable.

Really don't stress - it's an easy sort IME. I got a replacement together with transfer of ownership without any issue at all. When I called them, feeling like a total idiot, they assured me that it happens more often than we think.
