Passport when competing?

Was just wondering how many of you actually take your horses passport with you when you go to competitions? Not affiliated stuff, I know for example at BE they conduct random passport inspections, but to unaffiliated competitions?

I am one of those 'I know I should do, but I don't bother..' people :o
 
Pretty sure that legally you should have it with you when travelling. I wouldn't take anything minus a passport. Recovery companies will likely refuse to take horses without the correct number of passports.
 
I am duly impressed that everyone else seems to be so conscientious :) Perhaps I had better kick myself up the backside and start taking mine.... :)
 
I believe it's a legal requirement to have the horses passport with you when you travel them (unless you are taking them to vet in an emergency situation). I keep the passports with the truck papers so always take them.
 
I was mightily relieved to have mine with me at Shrewsbury County. Passport checked by the vet doing the dope testing ! and I was the only one in the class tested.

Apart from Hoys where you have to produce it for the vetting on arrival, I have never been asked for the passport.

This. Always travel all ours with theirs, wouldn't leave without them. Am always very unhappy when friends turn up for a lift in our lorry, and don't bring their horses' passports! :p
 
Hardly ever, but know I should. More often than not take to shows as easily put in show bag but never think of it for clinics or lessons. Nowhere to keep in the trailer or in the car without crumpling it.
 
Yip always try to remember it only forgotten a handful of times, my breakdown cover says I need it if my horses have to be transported by them so don't want to be stuck.
 
I keep mine in my show bag, it has all the essentials I take from home (as opposed to the yard) to a show, horses passport, dressage test sheets, BD membership cards, hairnets, flask, sweets, polos!
 
Every time, even when just going to a lesson. Between times its stored in the house locked away though, wouldn't trust to leave it in the truck! Driving you're often checked even for non FEI, same for RC. Having had a few tense moments with vets and vaccine cards not worth not always carrying it!

Now that is a REALLY good point that I hadn't thought of - thanks, mine will be coming with me for sure now :)
 
Mine lives in a box with first aid kit, trailer keys, emergency loading kit etc and it always, always travels with me. The box lives in the tack room the rest of the time so the Yao can always get it if she needs to.
 
No passport then no travel, I don't keep them all in the lorry but getting the right ones is just part of the getting ready routine. I was randomly checked at Windsor last year and asked for height certificate (in the passport) at a show this year.

I have left other liveries behind before if they haven't got their passport, I remind them plenty of times!
 
I keep mine in a pocket on the seat back so it is always with me. I wouldn’t remember it otherwise, its hard enough to remember the saddle at times.
 
I always take them. The exception being when we shimmy ponies from one field to the next that is literally a 5min journey. It stems from work where you have to have the racehorses passports every time they race. They are all checked randomly once or twice a year, first time runners are also checked so it's not worth not having them with you. I have never been asked for one at a show though.
 
Always, Always, Always - as others have said. No passport - no travel. If you breakdown the horses cannot be recovered without one! Although on a couple of occasions when we have been checked (including once crossing from France to the UK) the official would not board the box to check the passport matched those we were actually carrying - for "health & safety" reasons!
 
You will all be pleased to hear that I took mine today when we went out competing :) He behaved so badly I was tempted to leave him at the venue with his passport tucked into his breastplate...... :p
 
Fell into this trap some years ago. Lorry broke down, driver of horse transport refused to travel horse as I had left passport at home. I had to turn on the tears (so embarrassing) to get him to change his mind, then the bloody horse wouldn't load! Horrid day. Passports are now kept in the lorry!
