Passports for foreign bred horses.

I have a Belgian Warmblood. The Passport Regulations state that , as an imported horse he should be registered with a UK passport Issuing Organisation within 30 days of arriving in this country. Hasten to add that I bought him in this country but his passport hasn't been updated since his original registration. There is no direct BWB associated PIO in the UK. Should I get him registered with the British WarmBlood Society or ...............?

I imported an American Quarter Horse. I got the vet out to microchip him and fill in the description for the passport. I registered him with the UK AQHA using his American registration papers as ID. In your case, is he microchipped already & do you know the number? If not, consult your vet I would register him with the most appropriate passport issuer for his breed and get the correct registration form from them for the vet to fill in if required. It may be that his existing registration documents can be over stamped.

Thanks for that. As there is no Belgian Warmblood daughter PIO looks as though I can register with the British Warmblood Society or the British Equestrian Federation. As the BEF are cheaper that is probably the way to go.

While looking into this I was just wondering how many owners of EU warmbloods and horses of Irish origin have not registered with a UK PIO and are now committing an offence.

I have a Criollo who has an Italian passport as that is where the ship docked from South America. I've owned him for over 10 years and no one has ever questioned it. He even went back to Italy for a competition and there were no problems.

The EU sent out an advisory note that says when we leave the EU no UK studbooks will be recognised by the EU. You should register with the AES as they operate in the EU and the UK. They will also have documentation that complies with EU rules not a DFREA version.
