changing the ownership details over?

I have had my first horse for 3 years and my dutch wb for nearly 2 years, and I still havent got round to changing it. Posting it to the Netherlands really puts me off though for hers.

Yeah it is important, its proof you own them! And illegal not too. Don't be worried about sending them away, do it as a recorded delivery and you'll be fine - they are very efficient!
 
It is ILLEGAL not do it, and should be done within 30 days. You could be landed with a hefty fine too.

Has anyone every been asked to show their passport to any of the legislative bodies ie not the vet?

if so was it at a how or just out hacking only we've all be warned that we need to produce within 2 hrs if out on a ride and I wonder if anyone actually has been asked?
 
Uh oh! I bought my lad of a lady at my yard. She has since moved and so have I. I haven't change ownership over as I don't have any proof that I bought him off her, plus she hadn't changed ownership to her from his last owners. What do you do in this situation?!!
 
Kwinstanley I am similar to you...am bad...although I do have a bill of sale

Keep meaning to send it off to get it changed to me, just things keep coming up that means I need to have the passport for travelling.

Interestingly though I got him microchipped which is apprently proof of ownership so even though his passport isn't registered to me in the eyes of the law he is mine due to the bill of sale and the microchip registration to me.

passports really do seem to be a waste of time
 
only one of mines passport is in my name and i dont have proof of sale for any but have paid for all mine to be microchipped passports are a waste of time and money
 
We have a change of ownership form that is sent out with every passport that is to be filled in by the old and new owners.

If out hacking or do not have the passport with you and are asked for it you do have some grace and should be given a number (i could be wrong but i think its about 3) of hours in which to produce the passport.
 
You have to be within 3 hours of producing your passport if you are stopped - if you go on an all day hack, theoretically you should have your passport with you, otherwise they can fine you. It sucks!
 
Passports are a crock of shite IMO.
I was told that vets wont treat your horse if you dont show your passport and they will not PTS without seeing one either.
I went to the effort of getting my elderly horse a passport and microchip just before Christmas. He was PTS last Wednesday and not ONE person has asked to see it....load of old rubbish if you ask me...
 
Its only rubbish cos no one has bin taking it seriously, this mainly being the governments fault for not having their act together properly when they first brought the legislation in. The primary purpose is for identification for drug control which is almost impossible without something like the chipping along with. But they are starting to prosecute vets that are not properly checking/falsifying passports.

They really annoy me, not only because they are currently a waste of time and effort, but because they COULD be so good and useful if run properly. Apparently there are 47 different agencies that can produce [assports and not one of them contacts the other. I could have 47 different passports for my pony if I put my mind to it.........
 
Passports may we'll be a waste of time and effort. They don't actually show anything other than possibly the identity of the horse. But they don't prevent or limit theft as they are so easy to replace. They are not proof of ownership as they need to go out with the pony on loan. They're not even proof of vaccination status - we have a vaccine card seperately.

We have been stopped by VOSA on the way back from Hickstead. They checked passports, tachograph and driver hours. Obviosuly not enough to do.
 
I had a horse once who I tried to change ownership with the soiety, never got back in touch with me so it was never changed
 
Mine has a French passport and doesn't have the owner on it anyway. His has his breeding identity, description, microchip and vaccination history on it.
This is all perfectly legal and I have checked with DEFRA and they accept french passports
I have my BOS and have changed the details with Les Haras Nationaux so I am his registered owner.
