If a horse has a passport from its breed association, i.e KWPN or something, does it still need to have one of the DEFRA issued passports as well!??

And I know that as of July horses have to be micro chipped before they can have a passport, this is correct isn't it?

Thanks for any input, have had a look on the DEFRA website but found it a bit confusing! x

no they just have to have an passport by an autherised office.. in this your case kwpn.

if for example you wanted to re register your horse with a new society, say sports horse.. then you would have to have it microchipped first.

Oh really, thank you thats fantastic, I got the impression that you needed a DEFRA passport no matter what the horse already had (the one the vet silhoettes and issues). Thats the impression I got from the DEFRA website, hmm

Passports from some foeriegn breed societies are not acceptable in the UK, please check carefully if your falls into this category, or you could face a £5000 fine.
