Hi, I'm not sure how the horse passports work over here and have just bought a filly who has been imported. I had her vetted and she passed with no problems and I received a book with her and it appears to be her but I thought she would be micro-chipped and would have had innoculations for horse influenza, etc before she was imported but this doesn't appear to be the case. Is this correct?? Thanks.

Only foals born this year have to be microchipped.

The book you mention may just be her papers for her particular breed society if she is registered.

If she was mine, I would get her registered with and looked over by a local horse vet. Without seeing the papers you have it is difficult to say, but a passport tends to have sections in it for ID, owner details, change of owner details, innoculations, drug treatments and a section to be completed if the horse is not for human consumption.

I suspect she may not have had all her innoculations. There is the first shot, one 28 days later and then one 5 months and thereafter yearly with tetanus every other year.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. Yes that does help. I wasn't sure if the microchipping was now done for horses born or those travelling in the previous year and I want to take her for training outside of the UK later this year. It looks like the book is for her as it matches her markings. But everything else with the exception of the breeder details is blank, which I guess could be the case as from what I know she was bought by a dealer. Still would have thought she'd have had her innoculations though. Many thanks, much appreciated.

Your'e welcome. Yes a passport looks like a book with those different sections in. Is the innoculation section completed? Presumably, she would not have been allowed to travel here without being vacinated.

Hope you are both very happy together

No the section for innoculations isn't completed and I would also have thought that it should be for her to be allowed to travel. I think I will contact the vet who checked her and query it. Lovely girl but after hearing others' bad experiences I'd like to get as much info as possible. Thanks again
