I thought by law you were supposed to carry the horse's passport when travelling or incur a hefty fine. It would just be my luck to be caught without it.

I think it is but as my horse just happy hacks now, he is 30ish and retired, i never bothered getting one, but we are due to move at the end of the month so I may have to get one really

It is not up to the vet to enforce passport law. There are occasions, as listed on the Defra site that you don't need a passport. You mention that you are going to affiliate soon & will need one then. You certainly will, however if you are competing even at an unaffiliated level you should still have a passport. The law does not differentiate between Affiliated & Unaffiliated competition.

You can obtain one from any of the breed societys, or fromThe Horse Passport Agency:

To be honest, for a relatively small amount that the passport costs I cannot understand why people are still trying to evade getting them

I havent evaded getting one, I just havent got round to it

If I was very much 'in' the horsey world, competing and livery yards etc, then I would definately got one, but, as my horse is retired and we do the odd hack here and there, it has not been at ther forefront of my mind.
