Commenting on the fire place thread inspired this.
Show us a beloved past dog that we don’t know. I think lots know my Dougie and Jess collie.
I think Alfie, little Al was prior to my regular hho posting days

So here he is… goodness know what he was.
A family friend had a little terrier I loved. Their friends had a litter of unexpected small “JR’s”
I use “” as he wasn’t a Jack!
I went and met mum, she was a classic very sweet Jack Russell. They had several little dogs and no idea which was dad. I’d go Shih tzu
He was a nightmare of a thing, totally untrainable but loved children and had a gorgeous temperament. He was noisy, terrible to travel with!
He slept on top of our lab every night!
He loved to run and came running daily with me, one day he ran off after a cat and I found him collapsed. He had heart disease and from that day on came everywhere with me, I was too scared to leave him so from that day we were joined at the hip (ankle maybe)
With vet treatment he had a further 4 years of complete happiness.
Came to work, to the shower, to the loo! 🤦‍♀️😂
Eventually his heart caught up with him, very sadly but he was a cool little dude of a dog.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! 🥰😂

I've showed a pic before but why not 😂

This is Finnegan, we picked him up from our local pound when I was 5, and he was about 2 or 3,and he died when I was 16 when his diabetes became unmanageable. Someone had tied him up outside a shop and abandoned him.
He was the best ever, confident, cuddly, easy going. Just the perfect presence to have in the house. His favourite hobby outside of normal dog activities was pulling sheets off the line and rolling himself up like a big burrito. My mam was not amused.
No one really knew what he was though our vet was convinced there was a bit of Glen of imaal in there.

I don't really have any digital pictures, must look for some photos when I'm home next week.

I pestered my parents for another dog forever afterwards, but they never gave in. Apparently life begins when the dog dies and the kids move out (direct quote). As ye all know I finally got another last year at the grand age of 31, but it's because of him I'm so dog obsessed.

This Breeze. Our first rehome. She was maybe 9ish or a bit less when we got her. She had been tied to the gate at the RSPCA with a box of puppies. She was then homed to an old man who had Parkinsons Disease. He adored her but had to go to a home. She went with him which sounds great but apparently she only got walked if his family visited some weekends. Otherwise staff took her to the garden to toilet and then put her back in his room. She lived like that for 2 years.

When she came to us she was so shut down and overweight with a greasy coat and a bad smell!. With good food and time and gentle excercise she became a wonderful girl. The first time she barked was amazing. She had just realised she could run round the garden and no one would tell her off. The joy in life she showed was heartwarming and everyone loved her. She went off her legs one day two and a half years later and was PTS the same day. She was a fantastic rather ugly dog with a wonderful nature and when she went to be PTS the family all rushed over for a last pat and several neighbours came to say a gentle goodbye.

The picture is her first trip to the beach ever. She ran up and down the sea shore looking for a way round as she hated going in water. She came from the Cinnamon Trust

Poppy the Patterdale, rescued by us at less than a year old full of pups, riddled with lice and full of worms not an ounce of fat on her poor little bones. She went on to have 3 little fluff balls, sadly one died but the other two found lovely homes through the Dogs Trust. A typical little feisty Patterdale but so loving and loyal.

Beautiful CoCo Brown, a puppy farm labrador. She had to be PTS at just 6 years old on the vet's operating table, her stomach had just disintegrated from the meds to try and control the pain of her hip and elbow dysplasia. We made sure her short life was much loved and wonderful, it was all we could do.

Misst, it’s a lovely idea that a dog could have gone into a home with its owner but I guess the reality can be very different, poor girl. A little similar to my old collie who was also owned by an elderly person.
Great that you were able to give her a good life afterwards.

Mrs J, Poppy is my kind of dog 🥰 what a beautiful face.
Poor Coco, that must have been hard, it was my biggest fear when my current lab started limping :(

This is Chappie, our previous dog, a Parson Russell terrier. We rehomed him from a family near Luton who didn't think they had time to look after him properly. He was about 8 when we got him, we lost him aged 18 or 19.

This is Jake, one of our first pair, farm/working bred, from the Welsh/English border. He was a dog of character, adored my OH, got through 2 cruciate repairs, full TPLOs. He recovered so well but then was sadly diagnosed with spinal tumours and we knew there was almost zero chance of recovery. He just couldn’t walk one day. I wanted another that looked just like him, hence Bear.

Me with the first family boxer, clearly my parents didn't have the same style Clodagh's 😂 She wasn't actually the puppy my parents chose and was the runt but she was the loveliest child friendly dog so after their initial annoyance they were happy we got her.

For the past 20 years, yes. It’s my OH’s childhood breed, my childhood dog was a Keeshond, not very practical at the yard (memories of first pair rolling in the run off from the muckheap)! I was very tempted with a keesie puppy that hadn’t been sold last month, but I like pairs. I doubt we’ll change, although I foresee a scruffy terrier somewhere in the future.
