Hello, does anyone has experience of pastern fractures?
I have taken on a horse who had a pastern fracture (I am pretty sure its the long pastern but awaiting confirmation from the vet who treated him). The pastern has been knitted back together but an abcess occured just after surgery and was drained so there is now a hole which also needs to heal. He is on paddock rest at the minute.
Looking for any past experiences, any comments from barefooters who being barefoot will benefit him right now (my others are barefoot but he has come to me fully shod). Any comments from those who believe him being shod will give more benefit.
He is not in any pain or on any medication right now just needs time to heal. Im looking for sucess stories/unsucessful cases etc. I will keep following the vets advice obviously but experience from other people can add so much more to the healing process.
