Below is a pic of Vardi's pastern injury.

Now admitted it is much better than it was origionally it was 8cam x 8cm and 4cm deep. But.....it just does not seem to want to close up.

It is very slightly warm to the touch and at the moment we are washing daily with betadine scrub then applying Green Clay to keep the fly's out.

He is slightly lame on it (nothing like two weeks ago when he was hopping onto the toe then placing it down and straight onto the toe again. He has been off the pain meds for a week now and finished a course of antibiotics on Monday.

Does anyone have any bright ideas on what we could use to get it closed up once and for all or am I just turning into an impatient mare.

I wonder if you could use Steri Strips from the chemist as you would a human wound? I would think you might have to shave off the hair around it, clean up the wound as you are doing, dry the skin and then stick the wound together with the steri strips, then apply the clay to protect from flys.
Not sure how strong they are for holding horse flesh together but they work well on small child legs!

my horse had a cut like that but on the front of his pastern and it took six weeks before i was able to ride him because the movement kept making it unable to close as the scab over it kept cracking i put vasaline on it to keep the wet out and once it stated to close up i used sudocrem and demoline wound cream the vet suggested putting a dressing on it but Taz being a twat he wouldnt let you touch it, was bad enough twitching him to put cream on it wasnt gonna do that to put a dressing on too
