One of my horses has developed scabs on her heels, not all of them; one front and the opposite hind. Very similar to mud fever.
I've been putting silver cream on which seems to have cleared it up a little and I have also kept her in for a couple of days.
Somebody mentioned buttercup burn to me....which, she did have a very swollen eye a few days before this. I actually thought it was down to flies as she pulls her mask off ALL the time. I put some ointment in and it had gone the next day. Swollen eyes are a classic symptom of buttercup burn apparently, although, when I have walked through the paddocks, I cant see any buttercups, only ragwort and potentially St John's wort.
With the scab on her hind leg, she has a little bit of swelling but no heat and has developed a pop, whoch seems like the ligaments over her pastern are popping in and out when she is in walk.
She is a little 13hh chestnust with white stockings so that may add to the problem, also...we have moved to a beautiful livery yard that has mus fever in the ground, but to our knowledge she has never suffered with it before. She's been brought back into work and I have done quite a bit with her in a sandy arena...also my have something to do with it?
Any/all ideas are welcome!
