Pasture Mix causing trouble!!

My old donk was on d&h country comp mix, all fine. Then the snow came and I changed him onto pasture mix as couldn't do much with him, Kept him on it as I started to get him fitter again but the bloody thing has been so naughty since being on it, I don't want to go back to the comp mix as right now its not needed so I was thinking maybe a cool mix?? anybody have any recommendations??
 
This doesn't surprise me in the slightest! They do a leisure mix that might be better, its what I changed my old horse onto after he started being virtually unrideabel at the age of 24 on D & H 16 plus!
 
Mixes usually contain more cereals/starch than the equivalent cube (because cereals are need to obtain the 'muesli' appearance that many horse-owners like). Even cool mixes are quite high in starch - Spiller's Cool Mix has 20% starch. By comparison, Spiller's High Fibre Cubes have 10% starch and their Response Slow Release Energy Cubes have 12%.
 
Fussy old goat wont eat nuts/cubes in any way, shape or form i did get him some 'slow release energy cubes' and the bugger wouldn't touch them!
 
My boy cant cope with Spillers 'cool' mix or not so cool in our case! but was fine with Spillers Responce slow release mix.
I have recently been feeding so little mix, (leisure mix) that I couldnt really say it was causing a problem but Ive recenty knocked it out completely and am now just feeding Hifi and high fibre cubes.
 
My 4 year old Appy has been much naightier since being on pasture mix too. I swapped her onto it from Leisure mix just before the snow came as we were increasing workload and felt she lacked a bit of 'something'. Haven't rode her in the past 8 weeks as we only had our field to ride in & it was like a swamp, bringing her back into work now and she's been, lets say, opinionated! I thought it might just be the time of year as she seemed a bit livelier about this time last year but maybe a change in feed could be in order. Debating whether it might be the pasture mix or the alpha beet causing the issue as she went onto both around the same time.
 
I know you shouldn't, change your horses feed suddenly, but I ran out,which for me is weird, so bought a bag of Baileys high fibre mix,for what I'd hope for a day, my old mare wouldn't touch it the other 3 ate but I wouldn't say with gusto,so went back and got a bag of Dengie Firbe mix, which I use to have my old mare on, she ate it, but really didn't tuck in the other 3 loved it, clean bowls etc:- Today back on their normal food and have a mixed reaction. As the Winergy low fibre I buy cost more each per bag than the ones I bought to infill, if you see what I mean, although my horses have done very well on it, begining to think like us they like a change now and then so will buy a couple of bags each month to mix in with their normal food.
