Saw in the Telegraph that Pat Moss, sister of racing driver Stirling Moss has died.
She was a great junior show jumper. I never met her or saw her ride but I do have some books from the 1940's and 1950's with photos of her competing and she was a very stylish rider of the 'White Cloud' ponies at a time when some of the junior jumpers were really quite lumpen.
As a junior she also beat many riders who went on to compete internationally.
One caption in a book says that Pat aged 7 riding Brandy (of White Cloud) for the first time won the jump off after clearing a triple bar of 5'3".
They don't make them like that anymore.

Didn't we all want to be a horsewoman like her?
Every rider in the world can aspire to achieve that level of horsepersonship!
 
Some of my childhood memories here! Always remember Pat Moss competing at about the same time as Pat Smythe. Royal International was at White City in those days! Didn't Pat Moss go on to rally driving? Feeling very old now! Showjumoping was great in those days.......unlike now.......never watch it!

Didn't she marry a rally driver ??Carlsson I think as she went double barrelled with it?
 
She was a very nice Lady, always at the shows supporting her Daughter Susie.
My Sympathies go to the whole family.

Second that, very much. BTW her husband's first name wa Erik I believe and I think he was world champion rally driver for about 5 years on the trot.

I remember sitting behind her at one of the old High Performance Horse sales at the BEC and her comments on the horses put forward showed she had a really good eye for a horse which must have been a great help to Suzie.
 
I also knew her from the shows with Susie, she was one of the politest, friendliest, most professional people you could hope to meet.
(Even in the warm-up, & that's saying something!)

I'm with you Keeperscottage. I do it (SJ I mean) but I'm not a great viewer, and I think I was a better rider when I did watch it in the 1960's and 70's.
 
Oh , I'm really sorry to hear the news . I was flicking through a showjumping book from the early 1960's the other day & wondering what became of her .

I didn't know her , but the article I was reading said what a pleasant person she was & judging by the replies , they were not wrong . Sad news .
