Trundled off to Patchetts for an Elementary Q...needed to get one more.......The Green Godess got us there in comfort, albeit not necessarily style.......it has not got "horses" on it yet, but have decided to not put this on the front and back... we are going to put NEDDIES instead!! tehe!!

Gary Williams was there with showmaker.....he is such a gorg. horse.....a WOW horse..they did elementary Open (thankfully as I am still restricted!!) and got a WOPPING......wait for it..........78%.........!!GULP!!!!!

So, didnt get rained on in the warm-up outside..thankyou Lordy!!..Practiced countercanter and kept on "flying changing"!! Bugger!! Leg yield........ummmmmmmm.... Like when I was at school with fractions, just cant get my head round this yet......the penny eventually dropped at school......hopefully it will in my riding soon too as he did a good test, no flying changes in test.phew but my... leg yield.. 6 and another 6!! LOL!! The highest score was 64%..in restricted... went to see Verity who is Garys girlfriend to say hello and she said "you got a good score"...oh, I said... she said "70 something.
smile.gif
.. then oh no sorry 67%.
frown.gif
." Well in 2 seconds I went YIPPEE, then oh....because my friend then said there was someone on 68.7%..
frown.gif
...poo!!...so walked to the score board where hubby was.. I hate going to get my scores!! and he put his thumbs up?
crazy.gif
?? So now I am totally confused.
crazy.gif
........my friend had see 64.7 and thought it was 68.7!! LOL!!
smirk.gif
So I did win... talk about yes,no,yes,no!!AGHHHRR!!
laugh.gif
So I can relax from competing and work on this blooming side ways stuff.

.. any tips???!!!I seem to anticipate the leg yield and instead get quarters leading......penny is not dropping yet...........think the "angles" up above are playing with my penny!!! Can you ask them to drop it please!!

YAY - well done, thats you qualified for the summers then
grin.gif

Altho if you come within a certain placing at the Winters i dont think you can do the summers at the same level? I might be wrong tho!

With the leg yield make sure you set it up properly, so come down the centre line, ride straight, then set shoulders up and ask the quarters to follow, then you wont get quarters leading. Its the same with halfpass aswell - aslong as you set the shoulders up properly the rest should follow

(technically!)

Well done thats excellent news. What have you qualified for now? Think I would have killed my friend lol. Talk about heart beating moments.

We missed the poo weather as well and in fact it was lovely and sunny.

Dont worry the penny will drop. It used to find shoulder-in the most difficult thing on the planet and for months I struggled then one day for no reason whatsoever I did it and from then on it was ok.

Mind you I prob couldnt do anything nowadays lol.

"angles" 'angels' - very clever - gave me a giggle which made my husband give me an odd look .... again!!

Weezy... my leg yields are PANTS!!! They let me down all the time!! Luckily today my other movements were good so made up the scores!!! I just cant blooming get it... Tempi, yes I know shoulders, which I must think, and be told over and over again... but I kinda think quick quarters get them moving!!!agghh!! and whoosh over they go...leaving the shoulders in Narnia I think!!!

Folara, Elem. Summer Regionals.......although IF i get this sideways stuff!! I may try some medium so will have to go Open I believe in Elem....then again as Tempi said... IF and ha ha BIG IF!! I come in top 10 at Winter Nationals I do not think I can do Elem. summer at all????? Anyone know??!!

Thanks FMC!!!

Ooooh Medium - thats scary lol.

Dont you just go to Open instead?

Hopefully we will get the other Q we need and go to Summers too. Would be so nice after so long off competing.

Can't you still do rest .in regionals because there were people in novice rest. at Addington who had loads of elem. points ,check out Roli. You will only be out if you come in top 10 at champs [which of course you will]
By the way we will still be at champs on Sunday ,I think ,we have comb training Wed, Music ,Thurs, Off Firday,Petplan Sat, and riding club Sunday.BUSY ,BUSY, BUSY

Oh Carthorse cool!!!! Let me know your times Sat etc.. we are hoping to set off early early Sat as think it will take 4 hours or so to get there so may be in time to see your class!! My you are buisy buisy bee!!! so presume Thurs night is drinky poos night!!! LOL!!

Ok, so IF came in top 10 at nationals with certain % then I would have to do open at Summers........I think that is right, cause I came in top 10 at Novice Restricted but because it was below the % I could still do Restricted...Novice for the summers last year...think this is the same for Elem?? So I need to aim for Medium eh... GULP!!!!!!! Gawd I need to save for some lessons I think.............

HI Freestyler, i saw you at nationals and judging the quality of your horse if you do have to go open at summers you shouldnt be disgraced, he is fab!!!

PLEASE try when you go into leg yield to ride the shoulders onto a diagonal line before you set the quarters off sidewards, may seem simple but i ride small tour and it was only when emile told me this that i was actualy able to ride this movement with complete freedom and cadence with my young pony!! Good luck , am sure you will carry on knocking them all dead!!!

Thankyou Salamo you are too kind!!

I shall Definately try what you say on Tues... Monday is his day of rest, mine too..although I still have to shovel his poo etc!!! LOL!!

Thanks Carthorse, I suppose I shall just go with the flow and suck it and see then eh!!!
grin.gif

Oops...I have to confess I am the friend who got the scores all wrong hummmm.....
But the test was FAB and they both looked amazing......
Can't always be good at everything - you with your sideways thing and me with my counting....oops! Silly thing is you have done it all fine at home...

Well done chuck!! Am so pleased he's going well. It's a good omen for Hartpury and at least you've got no leg yeilds in 48!

To add to what others have said re the leg yeilds I would also saY be careful not to have your leg too far back when you ask for the sideways steps as this automatically pushes the quarters too far over.

Also an exercise I do with some of my clients is too get them to start to ride just a straight line across the diagonal and then to move the quarters over into the leg yeild for a few steps, then straighten the horse again (still going across the diagonal) then move the quarters again etc etc. I find it gives them a real feel of where the quarters are and keeping them under control.

Illusion... .thanks my dear!!! No worries, it is always great that you come to lend a hand!! LOL!!!... I know I get it at home, but it is stil not great......gotta get my head round this one.......

Jlav, good idea..I shall try this too...think I need to sit on my lard arse a bit more!!.. yes thank god for 48!!! We have been practising FORWARD FORWARD MARCH!! TEHE!! Just need to get out hacking to encourage this too.....when pants weather stops!! Just sooooooo frustrating when you cant get something though.......having a big big DIVVY moment, or rather...day, week, month!!! I am going to go to bed now thinking, shoulder first, prepare....proper preparation prevents poor performance......the 5 P's!!! Although I know another 5 P's I shall not say on here!!tehe!!!

Well done!

Nice not to have to worry about chasing qualifiers and to be able to spend time consolidating training.
We've got the Elem under our belt but have got seconditis at Medium just recently....the last one to someone who has already qualified......grrrr!

Huge congrats

Lou took a long time to get a good leg yield as well - I don't know if you have the same problem but the trouble we had was that when I positioned him correctly the quality of trot would then suffer and his legs would almost gte stuck! What we did was flex him slightly into the direction of travel so that his shoulder didn't escape and then went into it quite subtley and then I really asked his hindleg to move over for the last few strides - so he learnt to build up and always finish the movement with implusion rather than starting well and dying, gradually I was able to get more swing earlier on and now he can maintain it for the whole movement.

Thanks Bananaman...Sure you will get over seconditis next time out! Very much a grrrr when it keeps on happening though!! Yes, I will now concentrate on homework... lateral lateral and more lateral!!!! oh yeh... forward forward forward too!!!
