Patterdale's Pregnancybox returns.....

Absolutely no idea about breeding OP (I just buy them when she's done the hard work!) but my wonderful breeder of our current two uses newspaper throughout until they're really mobile, shredded for ease of picking, and vet bed. She's never worried about the ink. X
 
Our cavalier King Charles had a litter of 11 pups 5 days ago! All healthy and beautiful mum was amazing and whelped all by herself, very smooth considering she's small and 11 is quite a large number! The scan showed 7/8.....!!!
They are perfect even if they are a super noisy bunch!

Wow 11 that is a fair old litter for a cav. I do realise you have only given brief details but I would be concerned if pups are very noisy, at 5 days I would expect only puppy mumbling ( not sure if that's a technical term :) ) . Perhaps the pups need supplementing, apologies if you are already doing this.
