Did anyone see him beatin the floor as soon as he got off? Not good for the sport in my opinion, plently of other riders who have been just as disapointed and not shown themselves up!
I'd much rather he hit the ground than the horse. And he did at least walk well away from the horse; he probably thought he was out of sight as well, behind the jeep.
agree with diesel and knowing tapner as i do he was totally taking it out on himself and probably just as well we couldnt hear what he was saying too himself about himself
Yeh I agree Mary King was smiling away, she always seems to no matter what. All I can say is as long as he doesnt take it out on the horse who cares? Just making himself look like a d*ck!
I don't see the problem if he was away from the ring & the horse. It's no different to somebody kicking the tyre of a car in frustration. We all do it.
Had he been flogging his horse then that would have been different. We all have moments of frustration & that was probably all it was.
Badders is a big event with a lot of pressure & if things hadn't gone to plan he was bound to feel frustrated.
I was quite impressed with it. Gave the horse a nice pat as it wasn't his fault, got off quietly and walked away from everyone, almost out of sight then was vvv frustrated. Not a problem for me, especially considering their fabulous form this season. If he can go out tonight for a drink with a smile then he's a better person than I might be in his position!
Sorry, I'd rather he went mad at the ground than his horse. He gave it a pat after the finish and I was most surprised (but felt his disappointment) when he did the angry dance. I applaud him for venting his anger that way. He'll be healthier for it.
Whilst it didn't maybe show him in the best light at least he patted his horse. I am sure it was pure frustration. Rather that than hitting his horse unnecessarily.
imagine all the money and time hes put in, not to say emotion and to be so competitive, n then not, is gotta break your heart!!!! he patted the horse and i bel was kicking himself for a rider mistake!!! think he was hard on himself, and the grass and ofcourse his hat!!!!!!!
Yes he didn't beat the horse,
yes he patted it and walked away and took his frustration out on the ground,
yes he must be immensly dissapointed,
yes he probably thought he was out of sight
and I'm sure he's a nice bloke.
Still thought he made himself look like a tit though lol
Mary however IMHO had more reason to do it yet restrained herself from reacting in public in such a way.
Yes but the mistake was his and I think I would be just as furious with myself if I had also blown my chance for the Olympics in the same fashion when the horse was going so well.
You forget that a good result at Badminton could have changed his life - more rides, more money, team slot and all the money that comes with riding on a team. Not every rider is as lucky as Mary King to be bought £400k horses and still have one at home who is pretty much guaranteed a place in Hong Kong. Mary will not have lost anything. Paul may have missed out on a great deal more.
Poor Paul......I really do feel for him, the tension behind the scenes at a 4*, and a qualifier to boot is immense. But, as has been said, he only took it out on himself, and thought he was out of sight, so what's the harm?
