Did you see the score
In-hand wise I only know who won the yearling class and the overal champion. Not sure who took the 2y.o or the 3y.o class apparently 2y.o was a big class, yearlings was a small class (10 this year instead of last years 23 entrants) and apparently the 3y.o were of poor quality.
Its the in hand classes I was after as they are not listed on the BE site
Did anyone who went have a catalogue? I think there may have been 2 in the in hand classes with the Fleetwater prefix and interested to know if their breeding was listed
There was a list of entrants up on the BE website ( for the in hand classes)
Was surprised because there was very few entrants, like literally only about 7 in one class. I wonder why?!
Last year 9% of all the horses competing were by Primitive Rising, and I heard the figure was rougly the same this year (excluding the four year old because I think he died in 2002/3 (?) and there was little frozen semen.)
Just shows the the TB will be around in eventing for quite some time to come!
For us October is too late and Twesledown is too far away to trek youngstock who we hope are going to become top competition horses of the future. We like them to just be horses until they are 3-4 years in the hope they have a long competitve future in front of them.
To have these sort of classes its a shame it cant be in the summer and a bit more made of it than stuck in the corner of a field with a few enthusiasts looking on.
I know, I wish it was the summer aswell, its so hard trying to keep the coats of youngsters. Well the overall champion had only been shown once before so I think a few shows a year are good as an educational purpose. Its nearly a 6 hour trek for us too
Have you thought about BEF? Might be closer to you.
You are right - the two year olds was a very big class and in sideways rain. It was won by "Classic Primitive". He was also the highest aggregate scorer in BEF Breeding History and has some lovely Advanced/Badminton mares next year.
He is parading at Belton in April '08 along with the other top Eventing sires
For the 2 year olds there were nearly 20 entrants, and the weather was dire, a real test of temperaments & handlers!.
Classic Primitive won that, and the yearling winner was lovely t00. Classic Primitive was the highest aggregate scorer in 4 years ! at the B.E.F. Futurity Classes and has some fab Advanced mares for next year. See him at www. geministud.co.uk
