I am going to try some for Tawny, yet again after one days shooting she has cracked pads. Has anyone tried the hyperdrug version, or is it best to go straight to Mushers? (Their delivery time is 2 weeks which is why I am looking elsewhere).

I have tried them, they came off after about 5 minutes.
I have just ordered some paw stuff recommended on FB, a healing balm and moisturiser rather than a wax, we shall see how it goes.
Snuffles - if you could ask him which brand he uses and what he thinks of them that would be good. The ones I had were highly recommended but useless.

Have you thought about some doggie boots. a local shooting bod I know has some for his spaniel.

Snuffles, it would be great if you ever bump into this man to ask him about boots. T was fine yesterday on the grass, we got to a horrible field of stoney plough so I put her front boots on. Sent her for a retrieve and with a popping noise she was gone and both boots were sitting where she had been, envisage a cartoon character blowing up, it looked just like that!

What appear to be cracked pads are often the process that the pad goes through to becoming work hardened and if the dog isn't lame, then they're best left alone. 'Treatment' or boots will only delay the process of hardening. Before the start of the shooting season, road work is probably the best way to prepare the pads, and if the owner isn't feeling too athletic, then riding a bicycle whilst the dog runs beside is the short-cut!

Another though perhaps minor point is that dogs wearing booties on a shoot day may have the owner in line for a dose of ridicule — so be warned!

Alec.
