Paying someone to poo pick (freelance)...any experience?

I think considering the age range you have in mind £5 per week isn't unreasonable (though obviously the more you pay the keener they'll be) if their local, if they had to commute then I think more would be appropriate and i'm sure you'll find someone willing.

Maybe if they rub off well then an opportunity to do stable duties

Sorry this bit made me laugh :D Talk about a promotion ;)

I do think a fiver is a bit stingy, like any workplace if you want your employees happy they need to have job satisfaction which lets face it their not going to get from picking up somone elses animals poop so the money has to be good if you want them to do a good job/stay for longer than a couple of weeks. For a weeks worth of poop I would say £9.50 so works out £1.50 a day for you if that makes sense? Might be a nice opportunity for a horse mad kid but at the end of the say its just shovelling poop however you dress it up.

Or you could get a sharer and they could pay you money to poo pick if they get some riding out of it too? ;) Just kidding.... kind of! lol.

That's a good idea Fidgety and something worth thinking about.

Everything else (stable duties wise) has been negotiated with the YO with regards to an assisted DIY/part livery type thing but they are unable to incorporate poo picking due to their time constraints.

It's worth thinking about if you're not on a strict Mon-Friday rota and can have days off during the week - most people would be grateful if they could share with somebody who could do a day or two during the week for them and would then be in a position to reciprocate on other days.

To give you an idea my horse has a small patch with only her on and she's out 24/7 through either. I take the barrow up when I'm walking to get her. 10mins later and 3/4 barrow of poo I then take her in. When I go back to turn her out I collect the barrow. No extra unnecessary walking. It's 10minuites a day. So for a week because they will start to break down and e harder to take up. I would allow 1.5 hours plus consider travelling so I would say £10 is a fairer amount.

cheers chaps.

ha the stable comment did sound a little derogatory! sorry about that to anyone offended!

I guess I'll just see once I've done it myself and talked to prospective people/YO/ other person who does it.

Maybe I will do a follow up post in 3 months to share with everyone on here just who is picking up the poo and for how much money! How exciting would that be for you all? Look forward to future instalments on this thrilling story ;)

I don't do sharers any more as I've had two crap ones that have put me off and I like to turn up as/when I like to see/ride my horse (it blinkin' costs me enough money!) :)

I wasn't talking sharing horses, but sharing a [poo picking] rota with a fellow livery.

i charge £2-3 per barrow if i am already on the yard, depending on size/condition of field and how large an area i am collecting from
hope that helps
