Well, better keep this one short after the last Tolstoy-esque effort
tongue.gif
Left at 5.30am Saturday morning for a 3-dayer: Intermediate Dressage on Saturday and Intermediate Eventing on Monday.

Enough has already been said about the layout, the ground etc so I'll stay off all that
wink.gif
smile.gif

T and Sparky warmed up fine, both with their "Do we really have to do this dressage malarky?" expressions on, but staying on message
grin.gif
No scary DC around on Saturday, so whole team quite relaxed, and everyone came out feeling they'd given it their best shot
smile.gif
We all went back to the lorries for a medicinal tinny - then around lunchtime got a call from the kids to say T was lying 2nd in her arena, which caused a minor heart attack as I'd already unplaited Sparky
shocked.gif
(At the PC Champs, the top two in each section ride-off against each other for the individual placings) We wandered up to find that with 6 scores left to post, T was now lying 4th - phew
wink.gif
Rather surprisingly, 5 of those last 6 went in front of T so she ended up 9th - in fact all the top 6 in her section were in the last 8 competitors... Think we'll be requesting a late draw next year
grin.gif
grin.gif
Anyway, happy enough, team ended up 16th of 26 which is respectable if not thrilling
smirk.gif

Hit the Pimms that night as blank day on Sunday - spent walking the course and generally chilling. T and her eventing team-mates watched the Open Dressage ride-off and saw Peony's Beatle, they said she did a great job and was a bit unlucky with the marking
frown.gif
But there were some SERIOUS dressage horses in there
grin.gif

Monday started bright and early for a 9-something dressage... By this time Sparky had his "Not MORE bl**dy dressage" expression on, and T had her "This is SUCH a pain in the backside, I can't do anything with this pony, he doesn't want to do any more bl**dy dressage" expression on - a challenge for any trainer but even more a Mummy/trainer combined
crazy.gif
grin.gif
Survived their test and scored 33 - not bad, but there's better to come on the future (I hope!)

The SJ was less intimidating than we'd feared - this is their weakest phase and can be a bit hit or miss
crazy.gif
They did a lovely flowing round, probably the best I've seen them jump in fairness, but had a couple of rails (poles were flying everywhere so no disgrace). Most pleasing, they made all the striding in the doubles and related distances which is something we've been working on. Here are a couple of photos - posted by kind permission of the pro photographer

Onto XC... Basically, I felt this was a huge ask for our pair: T is 12, Sparky is 7 and 14 hands. They are learning together and are barely established at PN level - this track was far closer at least in technicality to N than PN
crazy.gif
So I wasn't feeling especially optimistic... T, at least, was very positive throughout
smile.gif
Anyway, they set off over 1 and 2 ok, then at the 3rd which was that log on a mound which was near the end of the N course this spring for anyone who was there they had a stop which was unexpected, think S was a bit
shocked.gif
to find it when he got to the top of the slope and T hadn't warned him what was coming
wink.gif
Over 2nd time and on they went, over 4 and 5, 5 being again the skinny decent log into te little quarry with two steps down which caused a bit of trouble on the N track this spring
smile.gif
Flew next couple of straightforward fences, then it was the water: reasonable rolltop, LONG stride (or two
wink.gif
) to little rolltop/drop into water - never done one of these before. Through it like old pros - photo below:

Up the hill, over the tricky bench which caused so much trouble, over the next few no problem, then second last was a hanging log jumping straight into water - decent size and you could see the water underneath it on the approach. T said she kicked like mad but S was deeply suspicious and ground to a halt. He probably would have gone second time but we'd agreed that if that happened she'd nip round and do the L option so that's what she did, then over the last to finish. She finished livid, frustrated and disappointed but I was thrilled with them and, more to the point, so was scary DC (now in attendance
wink.gif
) Once T calmed down she started to see the positives and is now pretty pleased - as much as an over-competitive 12 year old can be in such a situation
wink.gif
Anyway, I think it was a stirling performance and something to build on for the future
smile.gif
Please join me in a glass of cheap mock-pink-champagne (you see, you should never have let me go to Waitrose
grin.gif
)

Sounds like a fab experience to me!!! That water jump pic is really awesome!!!!

A girl on our yard went and said what a tough xc track it was, and she is very established at PN and about to go N. Huge achievement for T under the circumstance i think!!!

Sounds like a very respectable performance for anyone - let alone a 12yo on a 14hander! Well done and I love the photos too.
cool.gif

They look great in the photos. By my reckoning Tilly has 10 (Is it 21 they have to leave?) years in PC so loads more chances to knock the socks off everyone.

Love the piccy's - looks like a very competant rider!!

Love the pony too!! Can I have one in size 16.2 please!!
grin.gif

She'll hopefully not grow too quickly - my daughter is still on the 14.2 she got when she was 12 (17 now!!!) and the pair have SUCH a good partnership they are going round Intermediates now!!!
grin.gif

Looks like your pony has bags of scope!

We had a very sticky moment at fence 3 (in the video, you can hear people gasp!), and that second water was really quite clever. Well done to your little ginger's- Alice was going round on her 14.2 who's very green XC, and I think the course was a real question. Even novices have more let up ences- I counted 2, not including the last and first.

Well done by the sounds of it the xc course was a good test so to complete in such as short time that they have been a partnership is very good and promising for 2010!!!!
grin.gif

If shes still a little down tell her it could have been worse:
I got eliminated in the dressage at my 1st champs at Weston
blush.gif

fab report and that pony is gorgoeus they loook like old timers going into the water
smile.gif

I have to admit I was nosey and clicked on and looked at all the pics in the album
blush.gif
sorry! one ? though where was that fence with the drop and the pig on top?... It gave me the colly wobbles just looking at it, never seen anything like it!

Gingers rule!
smile.gif

Sounds like an educational outing, 'though a shame it had to be that much of a trial xc. Still, she sounds a tough kid and no doubt will come back even more determined to win the next round.

Pats on the back for very junior jockey, the green orange pony, and a trainer who no doubt needed a drink or two after the whole ordeal.
smile.gif

woop woop, what an achievement, well done to T and S, and to yourself. Sounds like you all had a great time, and a very promising, exciting future ahead. Thumbs up to you
smile.gif

Well they have to be some of the cutest pics I've seen in a long time! Well done to T and Sparky - a brilliant performance, she should be thrilled to bits.
cool.gif

I too had a nosey through the rest of your photos
blush.gif
- lots of GB flags there! Who is the rather stunning dark bay (is it a stallion?).

I noticed you mentioned on an earlier post you took quite a lot of alcohol home with you - that's no good at all. You really need to teach those PC Mums the way of the Eventing World!!
smirk.gif

Great pics
smile.gif
She's so classy for a 12 year old and puts me to shame!
blush.gif
She will definitely be one to beat in the future. I love the pony too - I want him!

Fab report. They both oook very confident and "With it"! Definitely a combination for the future me thinks
smile.gif
Look forward to more updates, and as you say, a 16hh version of S would be perfect please
tongue.gif

Morning
smile.gif
Thanks everyone for the incredibly kind comments
smile.gif
smile.gif
T's just had a look through and is very
cool.gif
laugh.gif
- I promise I don't let her get big-headed but it doesn't do anyone any harm occasionally to get some positive feedback
wink.gif
So thanks again!

Chloe - don't mind at all, I forgot you could do that but help yourself
cool.gif
The piggy fence is actually at Burgie, it's on the 1*. Looks really scary but never causes any trouble (other than Zara retiring there this year
tongue.gif
)

m_m You are so right about the PC Mums, delightful people but seriously under-committed in some important respects
grin.gif
The stunning horse is my horse of a lifetime Herbie who I took from N to Advanced/2* but couldn't keep sound even to be a field ornament in the end
frown.gif
frown.gif
He was a different class from anything I've ever sat on. His last event was Kreuth CCI2*, he went round the XC 30 seconds under the time (fastest of the day - no mean feat with me on board
grin.gif
), was lying 2nd going into SJ but numpty jockey did a poor job and we finished 5th. He wasn't a stallion but we think he was probably gelded late as he had that musculature, and many of the other less pleasant characteristics - ask Lucretia, she dealt with him once which was once more than she would have liked to
grin.gif

Fantastic pics and report
grin.gif
Sounds like a really good confidence giving round and she's got loads of years left in the PC looking at her!

Loving the little ginger pony too - what a dude!

Suppose I'm way too late for the cheap pink fizz (yeah, as if you'd leave a bottle half empty....)?
tongue.gif

Big well dones for the little ginger ones and I suppose it's good that T learns to go through the gamut of emotions that come with being competitive - better out than in, I say
smile.gif
.

Photos are fab too, looking v polished thanks to their trainer, or was it her PC camp instructor that made the difference?
