PE winter buster and buster 450. What's the difference?

Good point!
? The winter buster has a "ballistic" outer and the buster 450x doesn't...thats the only difference i can see.

As stated, I rang them and they said the Ballistic is a stronger more robust material hence slightly more expensive.

Neck covers are not very generous in length and tight when done up, also I find it very tight round shoulders but generous in length and depth!! Will any manufacturer "ever" design a rug for a big horse?! Sigh!!

Thank you. That was a really helpful post. I am umming and ahhing between this and the mark todd of the same weight. His mark todd 350g fits him really well so maybe I'll just stick to what I know.

my mare has the storm buster 450 with the fixed neck. It comes right up to her ears and has room in the neck. It also is really deep and all you can see is her tail, head and from the knees down. Brilliant rug, as good quality as anything else she has (rambo, mark Todd, etc). I wouldn't go past Premier. I suppose it depends on the build of your horse. Mine is tb and quite fine but she has a deep chest.

Aghh. the agony of indecision. He is TBxWb. Big WB shoulders on him. I like PE stuff which is why I was considering it. It is so hard to know what will fit and what won't.

I expect he'd be alright but am loathe to chance it. Hmmm

I am shocked someone has found the necks too small and the shoulders !! We had a whole yard of horses in their rugs and all fitted perfectly fine from smaller horses to 17hh chunky boy and no rubs or troubles whatsoever !

Right well in that case, as it'll be a Christmas present, I will give links of both to my OH and he can decide which he likes best :) Seems as good a way as any.

He is not horsey but sounds like there is little to choose between them and they're the same price too.

try mastas, ive always found them good for shoulders and necks...

meant to say also, the material is really good too, she loves to roll in the mud so ha to get her rug hosed when she is wearing it, it comes up really well and even if it rains the dirt just slides off it. Brookes is 3 years old and still looks quite new.

hmmmmmm.... i decided against getting another PE rug. Reason being the tail flap is teeny and my horse's poor bum gets cold, he's got a cheap amigo on underneath hats the same size and it covers his bum properly - and if i went up a a size in the PE t would be too deep for him. Also, the neck strap velcro keeps coming undone and the fit means he has a big bare section under his neck as seen here

That neck does look a little small for your horse.
When you order over the phone, you can ask for a larger neck size with PE.

i dont think its that the neck is too small - he doesnt have a big or deep neck, it needs building up actually:o He's predominantly TB and only 15.2hh.... there is also tons of room round his neck, i could do with being able to get the straps tighter, a bigger size would drown him - i think its the way its cut from the top of the rug at the front and how the neck attaches if that makes sense... it leaves him too exposed for my liking.

I have a storm buster which I think is just wonderful!! It fits my 16.1 WB really well. I switched to it from a masta as he had a bad back when I got him and the storm buster was lighter than the masta equivalent he already had. It's in it's 3rd winter now and going strong!

Ahh you guys,

you're all so helpful and you posted me pictures and everything. emm0r and NSN I like both of your horses very much. Funny that there seems to be quite a difference in the way those rugs fit them both though?

I am really torn now. They mostly sound great. Shame I can't afford one and a Mark Todd!! I do love rugs and then I could just have both

This is the other one I am toying with. It isn't quite as thick though and I am looking for superwarm for his namby pamby brown horseness!

Hehehe I wish he was my horse !! he is one at the yard i worked at last !! :) they are very well made and I have never EVER in my life seen a PE turnout rug rip !

Ah well he is lovely either way. I'm partial to a bit of ginge with a big white face I must say :)

No I'm deadly serious!! Lol. He is 17.3hh WB in a 7'3" The length and depth are brilliant, BUT the neck is not long enough! I assume they just have one standard size? And they are tight round the shoulders which is a shame as it's a lovely rug otherwise!

I have tried Masta but the material isn't a very good quality and although high denier they rip like buggery!!

Oh gosh your horsey must have a looonngg neck the horse i posted in earlier picture is 17.2 HanoX with huge shoulders and a big old neck on him and never had a problem with necks being small or shoulders! My old yard every horse had at least 2 of these rugs and never an issue :O And not sure about siyes for necks never had them come up too small !

Have you tried mark todd? Some love em and some hate em. I love mine. This is the brown horse in question who is incredibly long and quite chunky over the shoulders and they fit him amazingly well (sorry for overload am trying to demonstrate his proportions as best I can) last one is him this morning in his Toddy rug. It is a rubbish pic off my phone but you can see how lovely and deep it is and how long the neck is. They have an extra bit at the bottom so when they are eating it still comes all the way to their ears. Some people on hear have said theirs leak but so far I haven't had a problem and it is good high denier ripstop outer. I agree about Masta's. Brown horse has a medium weight one which is just falling apart despite the fact he isn't that hard on rugs :(

did you have the check tech ones or the other type? Check tech dont rip through adjoining squares.
Failing that, i think it was equestrian clearance, they had a 'big boy' range on there...never looked at it myself but worth a go?

this is what ive found with the new(ish) weatherbeeta freestyle. I used to love the original taka etc but since theyve changed the fit, they dont fit! Really rubs their shoulders too. Gutted :(as they werent cheap!!!!

No Mark Todd aren't deep enough! His belly sticks out Lol. He looks like he's got a crop top on!!

Not sure which Masta it was but he was playing or grooming one of my others and the rug ripped!! He is out on P&R with electric so couldn't be the fence!
