A few years ago there seemed to be a lot on the internet about a clay (I think) product, like a large pea reddish brown in colour, being sold for track surface or cattle bedding? Anyone remember it's name and did it work? Or did it disintegrate? Was meant to be good for barefoot horses. Wondering if it was a by product from some industry and they were trying to find a market for it.

I think I know the stuff you're talking about, it was a bit like pumice as I recall and I remember thinking it would never stand up to being used as a surface for horses.

If you need a surface, you can use pea gravel no more than 10mm. I used 2-4mm for an arena and that was great.

Might you mean Lightweight Expanded Clay Aggregate (LECA). It's used (among other things) in road building so I'd imagine it's pretty tough stuff?
