I understand they are not safe for adults to ride in due to the weight. Can anyone tell me what weight rider roughly they are ok to use and what's the best safest alternative please?

I've seen some nasty draggings with the bent leg stirrup irons, even when fitted the right way round. I prefer to use the peacock stirrups, measure them when they are new and replace them as they start to bend. They bend an awful long way before they snap, I just don't let mine get anything like that far and have never had one snap on me.

Other people may take a different view of safety, this one works for me.

Oh wow! I never thought about them bending, I suppose I just thought they would stay the same shape
I always thought they were a good idea... not so much now though, I think I'll just stick to my regular ones

I think they're ok provided you check the rubber regularly for signs of wear. I have resd they're not recommended for jumping though.

As a 10 stone adult I have hunted several seasons in them!!!

I have never had an issue, but have always carried a spare set of rubber rings in my hunt coat.

After hunting I am always careful to check them for any wear and replace every few mnths to be on the safe side.

My current large size 6 boots fit in mine perfectly, I have come off a few times the rubber has gone and I have come off clean. I have even lost the rubber through wear and tear and they are so balanced its only when I have got home I realised its gone. Once I was upside down hanging and I still fell off clean(jodphur boots). Mine were from a reputable horse shop stainless steel. No idea they were dangerous but this has been posted before. I weigh 11.5 stones! No feather. I find them really safe. No issue. In 10 years I replaced the rubber treads in them. Great product. If they are that bad why were they not banned. I use to ride in old fashioned stirrups but after a few nasty falls think more people should ride in safety stirups etc . I hack.
