Wondered if anyone can offer any advice.... My horse has been diagnosed with Slight rotataion of the pedal bone (although he doesn't & never has had laminitis), He was very slightly lame for a few days with nothing really to notice, no swellings etc so put it down to a possible knock to his leg, then he went dog lame.... so the vets been and we both thougth it was an abcess but X rayed his foot which has shown the rotation I've got the farrier coming up on Tuesday to cut away some of his hoof and replace his shoes etc but I can't find anything on the net giving any possible reasons how this can happen... is it poor shoeing? I'll give the vets a call again & see what they say (very bad line when he called) but hoped someone could help... i'm really worrying now!! Any advice would be very much appriciated

I have a mare who has a slightly rotated pedal bone. She was slightly lame abcess was suspected none found so nerve blocked and then advised xrays which revealed the rotation. Xrays also revealed some arthritis and a small keretoma in the foot.
She has never had laminitis i have known her all her life and bought her as 2 year old so no doubt.
Farrier thinks rotation could be due to shape of the hoof (slightly pidgeon toed) and also due to extra weight when she was in foal .She is a TB so a flatish foot.
Farrier has fitted a heart bar shoe and rebalancing the foot this has made a big improvement she is now sound she takes one danelon a day for her arthritis and is now fine for hacking out,
My farrIer has been a great help on this he spoke to the vet directly and looked at the x rays with the vet to sort out the best shoe to fit.
I would chat to him about special shoeing.
Hope this helps
