You may remember my posts about whether to shoe my barefoot horse. Well the vet has been out today and done x-rays to try to understand his lameness following recent diagnosed brusied soles. On a scale of 1 to 10 he is a 1 in terms of inflamation of the bone he said its just a bit furrier than normal and that I shold shoe him with gel pads and bute indefinately:( Marley is a draft pleasure horse and I fear that the hard ground over the summer has exasperated the condition.... Does anyone one have a positive story? I love to hear any tips on management. I am now reading everything on tinternet! and going slightly potted

Pedal osteitis is a bit of a dustbin diagnosis IME. It tends to be hand in hand with something else - often poor foot conformation. Sounds like your horses case is mild and may well be helped with the advice the vet has given.

I had a horse with this years ago - she came sound and stayed in full work. :)

You have to give the inflammation time to settle though - barefoot doesn't suit every horse. ;)
