My mare has PO has had for the last two years she is 16 looks really well has not been ridden for the last two years as shes never really come sound again gets very pottery at times but sunday she came out of the stable very lame on her front right shes not very keen on putting weight on it i have given her bute to ease the pain and kept her in today!

I am worried as shes not covered on the insurance any more and i feel another set of x-rays coming up she had a full set last year and there had been no changes, she does suffer on hard ground.

Any sugestions?

An ID mare that I once owned had this, & went sound on bute, navilox & eggbars.

Not sure what happened long term as I sold her (with full medical history & all vet bills).

My friends horse had a neurectomy (also known as denerving) operation done to her gelding but it made no difference and he was put down in the end. Bute might be the way to go.

Mine's got PO. He had it for coming onto 5 year's now. He wear's egg bar shoe's and get's shod 5 week's. Since having shoe's on and a peroid of rest in the first year of it he now sound working happy now. Does she have one foot worsse then another?? Any sign's of a foot abscess?? Hope she get's well soon.

yes she does have one foot worse than the other! she has eggbars with a graduated heel this is only the second shoeing in these shoes, she seemed a lot ebtter tonight but she is on bute so think i am going to have to but her up from now on,did wonder if there was an abscess coming? shes very sore if you touch it and is not really that keen to pick it up.

Will see how she goes praying for rain to make the ground a little softer :)

Is the worser one the one she lame on?? Have you spoken to your vet?? Mine's just got over a long winded abscess it took 7 week's to come out I knew it was one and yes had vet and farrier out etc. From what I know which isnt that much on abscess is that if bute etc is given it calms it all down for only it come flare back up later on. I didnt give any bute or antibods when he had his one this is just mu personal choice.

I would speak to your vet on wheter to hot tub or poulicte it. It might not be a abscess finger's cross it is for you!!!! I do have other's way's into looking into my horse not just the vet etc.

I hope you going to be doing a rain dance too then!!! It's so hard!!
