Hi just wondering if anyone has any success stories of pedal osteitis. My boy has just been diagnosed and wondering if he will ever be able to have a normal full life again?

Thank you

Mine was diagnosed via x ray in may this year. I booted her during the day whilst the ground was hard and still boot her out hacking and touching wood* we have been sound since using the boots yay :D

No point shoeing as that increases concussion and decreases blood supply to the hooves - last thing you want with this condition!

What treatment has your vet recommended?

My mare had this and she had a pedal bone scrape last December had 4 months box rest then started riding again and she was sound and its been fine, except she has now damaged her Deep digital flexor tendon so is lame again:(

I do - my horse was diagnosed with this and navicular in Sept 2012 - took him barefoot in Nov (he went to Rockley) and has been sound since Jan 13 despite being in full work and eventing. I had x-rays done again in Aug 13 and it showed regeneration of the bone.

I bought a TB who had pedal osteitis .
He was shod normally , we did not work him in summer he was used as a hunter so we avoided the issue of work on hard ground when I first got him he went in sea most days I think that helped him .
He worked into his twenties .

Booting up for the field? Is that hoof boots or leg boots apologies for sounding stupid.

Sorry can't remember posters name but to the person who events barefoot have you tried shoes how do you find they cope going barefoot? We live in very stony ground and farrier reccomends normal shoes and gel pads vet treatment wise reccomended normal shoes and plastic pads and bute if I want to do something more.

Thank you all so much for your replies heartbreaking having your horse diagnosed with something.

Thank you
