My New Forest pony 'Rocky' has just been diagnosed today with a pedal wing fracture. The fracture is around 3 weeks old and (he has also been diagnosed with navicular in Aug this year and we thought that was still the problem.) the vet has given me the option of leaving it alone and putting him on 4 months box rest or operating and putting a screw in to secure the fracture and then 3-4 months box rest.
Just would like to know if anybody has had a horse with pedal wing fracture and how it was treated.

No, but I'll be interested to find out the replies as my horse has a possible suspected fracture of the pedal bone at the moment, although vet wants to leave it a few weeks before x-raying to get a clearer view.....my horse also has navicular.

My horse has this and navicular but was misdiagnosed so by the time it was mri'd it had partly fused with soft tissue so there was nothing that could be done. With highly expensive remedial shoeing we had hoped to get him able to be ridden (had been tipped as 4* horse) but he still isn't consistently sound. Tbh if I had known now what he would come back to then I may not have gone through paying all the money. He had 6 months box rest, made no difference to him what so ever.
