Pedigree?

Just been browsing Preloved and so many of the ads for dogs state...

'No papers but is full pedigree'

Now i'm not sure what i think of that statement as in my mind i would call a dog pedigree when both parents had papers and a traceable lineage.

Somehow when a dog doesnt have papers I think purebreed but not pedigree. Does that make sense?

Interested what others think.

I know what you mean. My two pups are springers, with one parent KC, one not, but I wouldn't claim they're 'pedigree' as it were, whereas Brig has a huge long pedigree and his parents were KC registered, so he's definitely 'pedigree'. makes no odds re what they look like, they're all similar to look at.

I think the pedigree label often includes KC registration but that isn't essential in order to be able to say that a dog is pedigree. Without papers, there's no showing but an awful lot of people only want pets.

Generally when I read that I think someone has been overbreeding their bitch ..Your only allowed to register a specific amount of litters a year under kennel club rules,it was introduced to avoid overbreeding and farming dogs.Extra litters bred are often left unregistered and the pups still sold as purebreds but they have no official pedigree to prove their breeding.

But like you if i heard that a dog has no papers id automatically discount it as a pedigree and think purebred..
for example in say a situation where a pet border collie was covered accidentally by another border collie id say the pubs were purebred collies but not pedigree as no papers.
