Hi, Just wondering if any had used a pee wee bit??
I got one a few days ago and it seems to have worked a charm on my chappy at home and was wondering if anyone had used one for x country or for hunting more importantly.
He is very well schooled and has excellent manners as has done quite alot of dressage but in company can get very strong and worked up. I have ridden him in company and he has been great in it, seems to love it, relaxed, lovely outline, no chomping and grinding on the bit and a lovely outlook. Just wondering if anyone has any hunted with one and how they work when the blood is really up??
Appreciate anyone elses experiences!
Many thanks!

I've not tried them personally but I've heard great things about them! I can't see why they would be any less efficient than any other bit for stopping once a horses blood is up? Any horse will run through any bit if they really want to!! I'm pleased for you that he is going so well in it at home

Hi, thanks for that. I was pretty dubious about trying it as its quite odd looking and very narrow, not like any other bit I've used, but he has been like a lamb in it! I was just curious as most of the reviews were about people schooling and not competing or hunting.
Thanks for your response, really appreciated!

interesting, just been reading about these and they sound very good. My 4 yr mare has a very sensitive mouth and is going better in her loose ring snaffle with lozenge but still has mouthy moments.

Hi, I know you can hire these before you buy so it might be worth trying it out! My guy is not particularily sensitive in the mouth but is by no means hard mouthed either. He has a lovely mouth but does grind every other bit I've had on him ranging from snaffle for every day to pelhams and gags for excerising with other horses and hunting. He would be really ugly and open his mouth wide if you didn't have a flash strap on. With the pee wee theres none of that now and no flash just a cavesson noseband.
He's really relaxed and happy in it as was looking a bit stressed when he was fidgeting before!
I only have it on the first setting so far too but he's giving me no reason to put it on next setting and jumped really well in it too.
I'm really curious to see the difference in brakes I have out hunting as he hasn't even began to pull out galloping and usually does!

My sister uses one and swears by it

Her horse has a fleshy mouth and fat tongue, she leans on the bit, but not on the Peewee, if you think your lad might get strong you can use one of the stronger settings, the instructions on their website are quite good, better to understand than the leaflet.

Hi Thanks a million, I hope it keeps working as well as it is at the moment! He's such a pleasure and jumps like a stag! Just can get a bit quick and ignores me when his adrenalin kicks in! Thanks for your post!

Looks like Im the only one it didnt work for

At first I thought Id finally found the cure for my horses tongue habit but it was short lived. I then found I had no brakes, he leant on it and although I didnt use the stronger setting, I just couldnt imagine how on earth it gave poll pressure???

Hi there, well my horse feels like I don't have really need reins which was a weird transformation but I'm just wondering how he'll react when he gets wound up. I could hold him on a silk thread at the moment in it. Now he never pulls or leans on his own or in the school but in company he does but not with this bit!
I don't think from what I've read that it gives poll pressure I think it gives slight curb action but not that much. I just held the bit in each position and it seems to be more to do with the angle of the bit in the mouth.
I'll give it a try when he's well adjusted to it and see what he thinks of that.. Its says to try it for at least 4 days before you may see a change and let them get used to it. I hope it stays this way.... Its horrible to think you've found a remedy and then back to square 1!
Thanks for your input!

Hi, I've got a 16.1hh ex-racehorse that I have been doing ODE's and hunter trials with. I do the dressage in just a happy mouth straight bar eggbutt as he doesn't like the nutcracker action, but in the sj and xc I usually ride him in a happy mouth fulmer with a french link in the middle. The last couple of times out he has been napping in the warm up for the xc and last weekend he napped between the 1st and 2nd fences in the xc, and although once I got him going again he didn't nap badly again, it felt like an argument the whole way round the course as he just kept tugging his head lower and pulling as hard as he could. I've had his back and teeth checked but all seems fine, and I think it's just that he gets over excited!
I'm not really sure what bits to try him in as he is quite sensitive so I don't want to try anything too harsh, but at the same time I don't really want another xc experience with him tanking around!
I've been reading up about the peewee bit and it seems to have good reviews, I was wondering if anyone had used it on a napper or a horse that pulls his head down xc, as it seems quite hard to find a bit that doesn't use poll pressure as I don't want his head any lower or more tucked in!
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
