Hi,
I am thinking of trying my horse in a pee wee bit and was wondering if anyone had tried one and what they were like? Thanks

I have one I need to sell! It has only been used once! I bought it because my daughter's new pony was chewing the bit and then got tongue over the bit a few times! My daughter didn't like it and we would have had problems competing with it in pony club anyway. We tried a roller snaffle and that has really suited the pony!

I first got one for a Clydie mare who had taken off with me, in fright, on a hack. We shot across a (fortunately quiet) road junction before I could stop her by pointing her at a wall. As she took a 61/2" bit my options were limited so I decided on a PeeWee. I really liked it brakes and steering were much improved. After I lost the mare, I lent the bit to an eventing friend who used it to school her horse to listen to turning aids between jumps. Then I used it with an IDx who liked to turn and run away from scary objects on hacks. Again it worked very well.
It seems to particularly suit horses with fleshy lips and fat tongues. The downside is that the sweet iron roughens easily, I learned to wash and dry the bit IMMEDIATELY after use and occasionally give it a rub with a pan scourer.
The first one was very expensive but they are only between £30 -£40 now. I am actually on my 3rd.

This bit suits my TB very well, I had tried everything and he fussed in all of them. I had to resort to bitless. With the Pee Wee he is settled in his mouth and I have the brakes I sometimes need. Light hands are a must with this bit. Google: www.macsequine.com, I think that it is supposed to rust.
