Peeing in a bucket - so how many of your horses do?

I have heard of this before and I've just read on another thread about someone who catches their horse's pee in a bucket.

My mare always relieves herself as soon as she comes in - right in the middle of her fresh new bed.

Is it really feasible to catch her pee in a bucket? Is the sound likely to make her spook?

Would love to be able to do this, it would save so much work/shavings/money etc ....

Yes, you can do this if she has a regular habit. Put some shavings in the bucket to deaden the sound and reduce splash!

My pony always wees when he gets in the trailer and I sit behind him and put a bucket between his back legs and catch it - saves swilling the trailer out later!

at my old yard, there was a lady who when she mucked out saved some of her dirty straw and left it in her Poo scoop and when her boy came in she picked his feet out etc put him in his box and he pee'd in the scoop then have his dinner, if he didnt pee in it he wouldn't get his dinner straight away.

if my pony see's me coming with a bucket whilst he's peeing he stops til i go away.

My horse is regular as clockwork in this respect, she always pees when she comes in. When she was on DIY it was easy to catch her pee in a bucket but now she's on part assisted and the YO brings her in. I'm really noticing that I'm getting through more bedding unfortunately so it was a saving when I was there to do it!

I had one that would pee in a bucket as soon as he got in a lorry. I threw it out over the ramp into a friend's face once! My current one pees in the lorry too but won't do it while we are there, the swine!

My friend has trained all her horses to do this as soon as she brings them in, certinaly saves on bedding. If your horse goes regularly when you bring her in, it shouldn't take long for her to get used to the bucket. Good Luck and don't forget watch out for any splash back

The mare opposite me often used to pee when brought in, so I suggested to her owner she started catching it!! She then took it a step further as started giving the horse its tea as soon as it had a pee, thus guaranteeing the mare always pees as soon as she is brought in as she want her feed! LOL the other day the mare had only been out of her box a hour, but still squeezed a bit of pee out when brought in and demanded a feed for her efforts!!

A couple of times when my pony is tied up he has pawed his skip bucket out from in front of his stable and got it underneath him and had a wee in it!!!!!!! I wouldn't have believed it if i wasnt there. Other liveries could believe it too. He didnt want his legs splashing on the concreate lol!

My old gelding would wee in a bucket if I whistled. I try it with my filly and only if she is bursting will she stand still while I get the bucket in position. My OH thinks i'm mad.

Haven't tried the bucket method but have taught my horse to have a pee before he goes in the horsebox. Think I'll try with a bucket - could do with less wet in the stable.
