I'm having a bit of an issue here. I have owned my dog for about 2 years now and this bad habit has only just started to occur.
He wont stop peeing on freshly cleaned washing, its gotten to the stage now where i cant leave anything on a chair or in a basket as he will jump in and mark where he thinks is his territory. He even tries to cock his leg up on the washing line (he fails as the washing is too high)
He also pees on the shower curtain once someone has had a shower or the bath has been cleaned.
I hate the thought of keeping my dog stuck in one room all day until his walks so i would hate to restrict him like that. The biggest mystery to me is why all of a sudden?
He gets walked 3 times a day for an hour each time and has full 24/7 toilet access as our back door is always open onto the garden.

Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Some washing products contain ammonia which he could be interpreting as another dog. Did you change what you washed in? Worth finding another one to see if it that

Would try different cleaning products. And I, peersonally, would set him up to fail and really tell him off, but that will probably be a hugely minority view!

It sounds like a washing powder problem to me. I would change my powder and get one of the diffuders to help to settle him back down. I would also be furious andf let him know about it, if he jumps up onto clean washing! Regardless of what he does after that.

Phew! I was waiting for someone to say clicker and biscuit would cure it!
We had a border terrier whou sed to climb on the kitchen table and pee on the butter, positive training we felt would not work there so we smacked him. :-) (And started putting the butter on the worktop).

He has never shown any interest in clean washing or jumping up until recently so it's not like we have just let him in the past. Also about a month ago i changed from Daz to Fairy so that might be it, thank you.

I am against lifting my hand to him as he's suck a timid, small dog and would be a nervous wreck if he got hit. I may just have to if he keeps on doing it, bum smacks and sent to bed, that's if we catch him in the act! :(

If you do catch him in the act, a loud low growl is more effective than a smack and more something he will understand. Cultivate it, it can be really useful for a nervous dog

Absolutely, I wouldn't smack a nervous dog. Our BT was the least nervous dog ever met. He got stolen once but they dumped him the next day!

Me too.

Or I'd get a spray/shock collar and get him right as he's doing it. That way he's not going to associate any bad response from you, but from the washing itself instead.
