Since starting my editor/manager job I am struggling to work 8.30am-6pm ish, walk home for 30 mins as there is no parking at work, drive 25 mins to the yard, do Orkan, come home at about 8.30, make dinner for OH then crawl into bed and do it all over again.

If I didn't do Orky after work I would however go insane as I look forward to it all day.

How does everyone else cope with the FT work and horseyness?

I work 2-10.
I do a job share with the YO and a friend.
I go the yard a 8am, ride and turn the three horses out.
I much out, put hay water and feed in for evening.

My friend then brings in in the evening.

I go home, shower, eat, get on bus and go work lol

Mine live out so there is a little less stress!

On my way to work, I go up and feed them in the morning and put hay out, do a little bit of poo picking around where the hay gets put too. Check the water trough.

On my way back from work I check they have enough hay left til the morning and take the buckets away with me.

I work 8.30 to 6 (ish)

Do both my neds in the morning. Get up @ 5 muck out, ride, then go sit on the M62 for a bit.
My saving grace is that I don't do evenings. YO brings in for me & feeds.

Mine was meant to be living out but his current favourite thing is to refuse to go back in the field despite the help of two AI's trying to coax him out. So after he's worked (2 nights in the week) he stays in

YO does the mornings for me thank goodness as I'd have to leave the house at about 5.45am to get back to the city in time.

Pity we have to work so much to keep our horses in luxury eh

Im not working full time as in 5 days, I do 3 days a week but 8am til 4pm maybe 5pm and I would struggle on them days. For years I worked 7am til 2.30pm and it was great. I used to get to the stables at 6am, quick skip out, feed and a friend would turn out a bit later, I was then able to get in, feed, ride etc later on. Now I keep him at a private yard and YO feeds, puts out and mucks out and gets in, pretty much everything on my work days as I dont think they would appreciate me waking them up at the crack of dawn and all the horses are all in by the time I get to the stables after work which is an hours drive from work. I feed, groom but dont ride as I never feel like it. I dont know how people manage working office hours 5 days a week. I often feel like Im taking advantage and hate not being self sufficient. On a normal yard it probably would be different as other people would work office hours, so I would get in later or turn out earlier etc.

I work 9-5. Turn out in the morning, if i get up early enough (meaning down yard by 7.15ish) i will muck out in the morning. After work i will muck out (if i didn't in the morning), bring them in, ride, feed, sort haynets for the morning etc.
With the weather recently haven't been riding much, didn't get down yard til 7.50 this am just turned out and left yard at 8.30. pm got there at 5.10 mucked out, brought them in etc and was home by 6.30. So was a quick day today.

Get up at 6.30am, feed and hay the yard (12), with son turn out and muck our 5, get to work/school for 8.30, work to 3.15 and home by 4pm with son from school and catch 5, ride 2 or 3, feed and then night stables at 8-9pm and bed. I couldn't do it if they weren't at home.

If I could afford 2 horses I think it would be easier, ok Id have double the work but I would be able to turn both out at whatever time I wanted, get in when I wanted and not have to rely on someone else to do him so hes not left alone in the field waiting for me. Id have to work double though to pay for them

Get up at 6am, throw on nearest horsey clothes in a snoozy state and drive up to yard (15min) to feed breakfast, muck out and turn out. Make up feeds and leave haynet in stable.

Home by 8.16am, shower, dress, make up etc, leave house about 9.15am and get into work to do 10am-6pm.

Yard friend brings her in about 4pm (I turn her two out in the mornings for her).

Go straight to yard from work, get there about 6.30pm as long as traffic not bad. Ride, feed, skip out and put in extra haynet for the night. Get home about 8.30pm (slightly later if distracted by others and blethering!

), aim to be in bed by 11pm ready for 6am alarm when it starts all over again!

Working 10-6 is a real help as it gives me that little bit extra time in the mornings plus avoids the worst of the traffic getting to/from work. Looking forward to summer though when she's out 24/7!

Brings back memories *shudder*

I work "full time" for the best company in the world now

Get up at about 10.30am unless I've something pressing to do, sit in my PJ's and dressing gown with a drink, do some e-mails, chat to people, put some orders in... have lunch, get a shower and get dressed, go 'ponying' for the afternoon and do all ponies (other livery turns out, I bring in). Come home, make some calls, eat, go out, meet friends etc, sometimes parties/training/presentations, home, e-mails and bed.

Life is good

I work shifts so my pattern changes from week to week. I used to be on DIY when my horses were just up the road, but now I only have one horse and a 30min drive, I have Ralph on part livery which helps a lot, however, I still have to make up feeds/hay etc and DIY at weekends, which usually involves me running around like a headless chicken

But I would'nt have it anyother way........

I work 7am to 3pm and have a 45 minute drive to work, so up at 4.45am grab clothes convenienty at side of bed, get to yard by 5am, feed yard, muck out and turn out my three horses and friends horse, go home wash, change cup of tea, leave for work at 6.10 hit the motorways for 45 minute drive, arrive just before 7am. Finish at 3pm, drive home, change at yard for 4pm, bring horses in, exercise my three, bed down, hang haynets up, make up feeds, go home by 8pm, dinner, bit of tv and bed by 9.30pm, then start all over again next day. I fill up an entire weeks supply of haynets on a saturday so all I have to do during the week is pick up 3 haynets.

I've just moved house and increased my hours at work. I used to live a 5 min walk from work and did 4 days a week 9 - 3 the yard was 20 minutes drive from home. Now I have a 30 minute drive to work, work 9 - 5 five days a week and the yard is 30 minutes drive from home

I also have a 13 yr old son. I have really really been struggling, especially with all this bad weather, my journey times had nearly doubled. I did contemplate packing it all in but instead have bought another horse! There is logic in that, I am bringing them home in a couple of weeks time!
My routine at the moment is up at 6am, walk the dogs, get son ready for school, get ready for work leave at 8.15am. Pick son up from wherever he may be at 5pm go straight to the yard, muck out and bring in (YO turns out for me in the mornings) get home around 7.30pm.
I can't wait to get them home and although I will have two again, the livery is cheaper plus I shall be saving on time and fuel! Bonus! O and I shall have something to ride - my other horse is only a youngster.

Up at 5.25am walk 30 steps to the horses, feed, change rugs and turn out. Muck out 3 stables, do hay nets and water. get ready for work and leave at 8.10am. Home about 1pm in my half hour lunch break (i only live around the corner so this makes it possible) and bring in, give D his dinner and give carrots to the little ones. Hose D's legs down. As soon as light night are here then they will stay out until i get home from work. Back to work then finish at 5pm. Home, get changed, back out to horses. Feed, skip out whilst they are eating, groom, change rugs, refill haynets and water if necessary. Have tea, then do late night check.

Get up at 5.45 a.m. Feed, muck out, hay and water in pj's. Go back into house and make lunch for work and tidy house a bit. Feed dog. Go back out at 6.45 a.m and tack up. Leave at 7 a.m. Exercise for an hour and 15 mins. Get home, turn out. Leave for work at 8.35 a.m.

Home by 6 p.m. Get in, groom and feed. Check him at about 10.30 p.m before going to bed. Works really well for me UNLESS its snowing or icy in which case he just gets turned out.

I work 9 - 5 FT but have an hours commute each way to and from work.

Get up at 6am - whilst ponies are eating chuck some haylage in the field for them normally by the time I have done this they are finished. Chuck all out in field. Muck out and refill water buckets ready for the evening. Luckily my mum does their haynets when she get home from work.
Back up to house by 7am have some breakfast shower and change for work and leave for work by 7.45am

I normally get home around 6pm - and all I have to do is bring in from field and feed. During the winter I don't ride during the week as I don't have a school.

I work 8.40 - 17.10 (times to suit train times basically!), I leave home at 7.45 to get train, and am home again at 5.45 - 6pm.

Life has been so much easier since I got my own place, and let them all live out (most of the time)....they are on the way to work for my OH, so he does a morning swing by to do a limb count most mornings, if they do come in or need feeding (when its frozen) then I go down before work, getting up at 6am earliest.

Then in the evenings I generally get down there between 6pm and 6.30pm and feed, groom, hay etc. I cant ride as I don't have a school, but in the summer I ride after work. In the winter i'm normally home by 7pm, and thats if I have done 'worst case scenario' of bringing in, so mucking out etc etc.

I used to get up at 5am to get over to old yard, and wouldn't be home most nights until 8.30pm.....so having my own place has been a godsend.

Up at 5am, get to yard 5.45. Feed 6 (feeds made up already), then do hay/water/feeds ready for the evening while she munches her breakfast. Do rugs, turn her out, take hay up for her + 2 others at the same time (lead her and push barrow). Muck out, sweep floor, put bed down, obsess about it for 10 minutes. Put water in, sweep up, tidy up, and head home. Home for 7.30, shower, dress, make packed lunch, breakfast, go to work. At work for 8.30, play on HHO and FB all day (don't ask!). Officially finish at 4.30, but during the winter I work through lunch to finish at 3.30. Get changed in office toilet, go straight to yard, get there for 4. Put hay on to soak, get tack out, put away any new hay I had delivered, drain hay. Get horse in, wash feet, take her back to stable with soaked hay in barrow. Groom, ride, rugs, put to bed, put tack away, feed. Home by 5 if I don't ride, 6 if I do ride. Cook dinner, talk to OH, watch TV, fall asleep on the sofa by 8.30. OH wakes me up at 10 to go to bed. Start again.

Thank god for flexible YO's who don't mind me there before dawn (I'm not the only one - in fact, I'm not even the first to arrive!), and flexible employers who let me mess around with my hours to fit it all in. And a patient OH who loves horses and spends longer with "his" (borrowed) horse than I do with mine!

up at 6.10am-feed, turnout, muckout etc, including friends pony who lives at mine. leave home 8.25am, at work 8.30am.

friend poo picks and brings mine it and grooms them in the afternoon, i leave work at 4.30, home by 4.35pm, on a horse by 5pm approx, yard all done by 6.30pm so evenings are free for seeing OH etc.
i go back out around 10pm to quickly skip and top up hays.

would be far more stressful if friend and I didnt have this arrangement as mum would bring in before dark but id have to poo pick by headtorch then groom, then ride.

the way things work now i have time to teach in the evenings and to take in schooling liveries.

Up 04:40 - make coffee, outside to feed, in for coffee/fag while eating, rug up + turnout, muck out 2 each (leave beds up), water, hay in for evening, let chooks out and muck out, make up feeds. In hourse for 06:00

Another coffee/fag, then shower and make lunch, leave for work 07:00, drop OH at work 07:20 at my work 08:00 - work till 16:30, pick up OH at 17:00, home 17:30 (always slower on way home!), change, beds down, catch, groom, ride, feed in house 20:00 to eat/glass of wine

22:00 out to do evening stables, skip out, rehay/water/feed

22:30 bed

Same following week but 35 mins later as I work 09:00 - 17:30 but have to drop OH off for 08:00

Plus being on call 24/7 every other week

Alarm 5.20 throw it across the room
Get Up 5.40 chuck clothes on, grab dogs and drive to horses
6.00 feed the wee beasties, check over, sort rugs if needed
6.50 get home, walk other dog, shower, change have brekkie
7.30 drive to work

4.00 leave work
4.30 get home walk dogs, change, drive to horses
5.00 feed beasties, check over, have a scratch and a play
6.00 go home cook dinner & collapse

This is whilst they are babies, but the rising 4 yr old will be brought back in to work soon so I'll be adding 1-1.5 hours to the evening routine

I work f/t and have George on part livery, but aside from the day I work 9.15am-7.30pm I go up to see him, my routine is:
leave home at 7.45 to get me into london in time for 9.15 start
finish work at 5.30 and commute home
get home at 6.40 and drive 20mins to the yard
ride, groom, skip out etc and leave yard at 8.40 to be home by 9.

I am lucky in that OH does my dinner for me, if he doesn't I have dinner at lunch time in the staff canteen, or take something to heat up in the microwave.

Up at 6am...at yard for 20past...feed/turn out/muck x3

Home for 7.30- cuppa, brekkie, shower.

Drop daughter at school- get to work for 9am (ish)

Finish work anywhere between 5 and 5.30.....

In summer will go down to yard later and ride etc, but this time of year when its dark and muddy its straight to yard to bring in, groom- make up haynets for next day etc....

back home for at the latest 7pm.

7.01pm.....pour a glass of wine
