ok so im going to rant, went to see a horsebox today, it was an hour and a half away so was a fair way, and when we arrived there was already someone viewing the box! they had arrived before us, it was really awkward!

we looked around it anyway and as i knew i would be from the advert it was just what we were looking for
so my dad said to the other people, 'well are you going to buy it then?' very tactfull father! anyway they said yes we are going to offer the asking price so my dad replies 'rite well we may aswell go then because you were here first'

i was fuming!

am i awful for wishing the engine blew up on them on the way home

Well the people that were already there on your arrival were always going to have first say in wether they would buy or not. You may be unhappy with the outcome but there's no reason to blame your father. What did you expect him to do.....fight them for it?

You've had a bit of bad luck, there are plenty more boxes out there, just forget about that one & get on sorting out another.

not mad at my dad just angry! we wouldnt of gone if we had known and wasted an afternoon! but yes must move on, stopped for a nice coffe and chocolate bun on the way home

Would you have been annoyed if the people had left several minutes before you got there? They may have also travelled a long time to see the box. Granted it wasn't nice for you to have to be there at the same time as them.

is it just me that thinks that it should not of been aranged for the same time, ie tell one party that someone is looking at it but if they dont buy then we can go after?! maybe im wrong im new to this

maybe they just overran appointments/meetings?

I know it is annoying and a waste of an afternoon but at least you had an afternoon out with ya daddy - the lorry wasn't meant to be!

No, ITA. The sellers should have had more courtesy in NOT arranging for two buyers to come at the same time. There is the factor that many many buyers never turn up, but even so, was a bit of a dirty thing for them to do.

Sellers can also be time wasters.

I can appreciate it's a wasted journey for you but I know when we were trying to sell our car the amount of people who rang up and wanted to come and view it and then never showed was unbelievable!! It was annoying from our point of view as we'd clean the car and then be sat waiting in for them to arrive.

I would be bloody furious if I had driven an hour and a half and they hadn't said someone else was coming at the same time!

Just common courtesy, surely, because if they had told you that, then you could have decided whether to wait and see if the first people wanted it before you left and saved your time and petrol.

Only excuse is that if they didn't realise or the other people rang after you but were local so got there quicker...doubtful...

Think searching for a lorry is more stressful than searching for a horse!

yes i can see it from their point of view, we may not have turned up

still i think it was selfish and she should of said we can go after if they dont turn up or dont buy, its just manners

thank you! was starting to think it was just me and this is acceptable practice when selling lorries lol

i have calmed down now but still wouldnt stop if i saw them broken down

The sellers handled this badly. When I was selling my car I had quite a few people phone about it. After the first ones had arranged a time to come I took phone numbers from the other people and said I would call them if it was still available. Seems the fairest way to me. And if the other people phoned after you but were more local the decent thing to do would have been to tell them that you had first option.

yes was a very rare occurence to spend time with my dad

i could understand if we both went to see it then went away to decide but it was just mean lol i felt cheated
had some rust anyway probably for the best hehe

(making myself feel better)

Never mind. There's probably a better one round the corner just for you.

This happened to us when we went to view a horse. The woman who was viewing it was an EX friend who for the first time in her life arrived early. We were booked to see it first. When I asked the lady selling if she minded if I just looked over him the EX friend said NO you can't I just said Hard luck and carried on. I saw something that I knew would be a problem EX Friend didn't I'd sorted a horse out for her previously and this was for her OH. We were looking for my OH. anyway we walked away while they stayed, bought the horse. It put her husband in hospital and off work for 3 months. Attacked her horse in the box couldn't travel together. I did feel sorry though that she didn't ask me why I was walking away because I would have told her even though she was an ex friend I did not want anything to happen to her husband. But she wouldn't talk to me. So what i'm rambling on about is IT WASN'T MEANT TO BE.

I agree that it wasn't the best way to do it. It would have been courteous to arrange different times and give you a ring if the box had already been sold.

This once happened to me when selling a horse on behalf of someone else. The owner told me about someone coming to try her and the YO had arranged for someone else to come. When we spoke about someone coming to view her we both assumed we were talking about the same person, until the first person turned up. The other arrived just before the first person left. I felt really awkward. They both wanted her but YO decided to sell her to the seond person as she had no idea about the first. In the end she failed the vetting and so second person no longer wanted her. When offered to the first person he said no as she chose the others over him. It all worked out good in the end.

Chin up, there are more lorries out there.

The same thing happened to us ! and as soon as we got out the car they said they would buy it

, anyway the seller said, rather sheepishly, that we could have a look at it (being as we had come a long way) and when we did it was c**p anyway!, got a lovely one now so keep looking the right one will come along

Some peple did that to me with a horse once, we travelled 2 hours and when we got there they had sold the horse and the people that got him were just leaving. They had 2 contact numbers and just couldnt be bothered to let us know.

well at least you know what you like what you do get there to see it, and there are some about to suit.
Ans it nay have been a pig to drive.
