I've seen pegasus physiotherapy who are based up in Cheshire and use a simulator to assess and correct your position. I was wondering if there was anyone similar closer to me? Possibly using the excellent simulator at Hartpury?

I am specifically looking for a physio doing this, rather than just someone to work on my position, as I suspect I have an issue in my hips that is making life more difficult than it needs to be (certainly for the horses I ride!!). My trainer's beautifully schooled horse has been telling tales about how I am gripping on with my upper legs, and tending to draw up and use my heel instead of staying long and using my calves. I am much, much better without stirrups but find it very difficult with stirrups.

I could go up to Pegasus but would only be able to go very infrequently so not sure if it would be worth it.

Thanks!

If you find a mechanical horse near you they should be able to tell you who uses it, so if ask Hartpury for a list. However I would have thought that a physio who understands horse riding should be able to assess you without a mechanical horse.

Yes, but a physio who is working you on the Racewood eventer simulator complete with all the sensors can see way more than an off horse treatment.

Done both - no comparison with how helpful the sessions are.

Plus the first private Nuffield based physio told me that I’d done my knee meniscus whereas Jen instantly found that I had injured my hamstring, treated it on first session, and I walked away sound.

There is a racewood simulator here and Alison has done the same training as the ladies at Pegasus. I had a great experience there and plan to go back in the new year for a full 2 hours, massage, simulator and physio session before bringing the boys back into work.

I think Brokenhurst, Hants is a little closer to you OP?

Thank you, a bit further actually and probably a less good drive (depending on the M6 of course!) than Cheshire.

I think I may end up going to Pegasus, if only for an initial view. I know I get a lot of very painful pinching in my right hip and my toes don't naturally face forward when in the saddle. Will probably see a normal physio here and then make the trip up.

Ok. So I was very wonky (and stiff) at the beginning of this year. I went to a sports physio recommended by my freelancer. He was brilliant (it actually turned out his wife is a pretty decent rider so he understood how we use ourselves in the saddle). I didn't realise just how tight and uncomfortable I was until I wasn't any longer. I'm so much more flexible and supple now and have got back movement I didn't realise I'd lost. I'm really strict about my stretches and exercises which keeps me feeling good.

Sorry, the above ramblings are meant to show that a good sports physio will help if you get the right one.

I went to Tilefield after the physio sessions and it really just confirmed that the work I was doing was correcting all my wonky, tight and creeky bits.

Franklin balls really helped relax the last few tight bits in pelvis and inner thigh.
