I am writing this on behalf of a friend.

Is a swales pelham or a sam marsh pelham any good for a very strong lightweight coloured for the show ring?
She has a very small mouth with a large tounge. She also rides with her mouth open!

Any ideas please?!?!

Cant really say much other than i think double bridles are preferable in the showring - should give quite alot of control for a strong horse because you can ride off the bridoon then use a bit of weymouth when needed. But i suppose for a small mouth not ideal having two bits shoved in there!
Have heard of but never come across a sam marsh pelham what does it do?

Sam Marsh is very popular with showing riders for strong horses. There was an article in Horse & Hound a few ago, I seem to remember it saying that anyone using one would need very sensitive hands.

If the horse does not like poll pressure, then I would go with the Swales, because as far as I am aware, it is the only pelham which does not extert poll pressure.

A Sam Marsh has a broad, wide, flat mouth piece which lies across the tongue and is extremely strong.
