Help wanted :)

In a few weeks I want to do a show hunter class an I've noticed in most classes horses are either in a double or pelhams.... So I'm going to go and borrow one, it's just I'm struggling on which one to get, there's loads of information on the Internet but obviously it's very difficult to figure out which one you get. He's currently in a Wilkie snaffle if that's any help :)

Thanks

Personally I prefer a stainless steel mullen mouth as I think they are pretty mild.

I'm not keen on jointed/french link pelhams, but some horses prefer them, so probably best to try a couple if you can before buying and see what your horse goes best in.

A Rugby pelham will give you the look of a double.

A pelham with a joint can cause the pelham not to work to how it was designed. It causes the curb not to work effectivly. I like about like the mullen mouth pelhams and neue schuele do a lovely pelham that Ive found alot of horses have liked

I would agree that if you want to use a pelham as a pelham (if that makes sense!) then there is no point having a jointed mouthpiece. However, if you are just using it to look right in the ring and will be riding mainly off the snaffle rein then I would get the mouthpiece that your horse is already used to. You'll want a rugby pelham (which has the loose rings) to get the look of a double.
